Record-Breaking Fundraising at the 2026 Boston Marathon
The 2026 Boston Marathon, presented by Bank of America, has etched its name in history by raising an unprecedented
$57.3 million for various nonprofit organizations across the community. This incredible achievement marks a remarkable
13.7% increase over last year’s total of
$50.4 million, further emphasizing the committed spirit of the Marathon’s participants.
The funds raised through this year’s marathon are a direct result of both generous donations and the dedication of race participants who participated in the
Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program. A total of
193 nonprofit organizations benefitted from this initiative, significantly amplifying the impact of the marathon well beyond just athletic competition.
Nicole Juri, the Director of Development for the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), expressed pride in the fundraising efforts. She stated, "Participants in the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program have once again set a single-year fundraising record, leading to a lasting impact for nearly 200 organizations in our community." This highlights how the marathon is not merely a race but a significant event fueling charitable support.
Since the
Official Charity Program began back in
1989, it has successfully raised over
$675 million to date. The program not only fuels funding for nonprofits but also creates a sense of camaraderie among runners, where each mile run contributes to vital causes that resonate with them personally.
Through its
My Marathoner campaign, Bank of America showcased the inspiring stories of various fundraising participants. Miceal Chamberlain, President of Bank of America in Massachusetts, noted, "This 130th Boston Marathon demonstrates the unparalleled power of sports and community working together to benefit organizations that support hundreds of thousands of individuals within our neighborhoods." The marathon hence becomes an avenue for spreading hope, empowerment, and support through community involvement.
Nearly
10% of the total participants in the 2026 Boston Marathon were part of the
Official Charity Program. This year, organizations leveraged their entries to recruit dedicated athletes willing to raise funds for various causes, enhancing the overall spirit of giving associated with this prestigious event.
Furthermore, the B.A.A. has its own team that raised funds specifically to advance its mission of fostering healthy lifestyles through sports. The B.A.A. Gives Back Marathon Team successfully generated nearly
$450,000 for community programming aimed at aiding runners at all skill levels. In addition, the newly formed B.A.A. Climate Crew raised
$87,000 in support of the association’s ongoing sustainability efforts, showcasing how sports initiatives can also champion environmental causes.
As we look forward, the application process for next year’s
Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program will kick off in early June. Selected organizations will begin recruiting athletes during the fall season. The upcoming Boston Marathon will take place on
April 19, 2027, expanding further on the rich legacy that this event has fostered which combines sport with purpose.
The B.A.A. has stood since
1887 as a nonprofit entity dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles through sports. Amidst the excitement and sweat of the marathon, the driving force remains the commitment to the community and the impact these collective efforts make possible.
