PenFed Foundation's Golf Classic Raises $65,000 for Veterans in South Carolina
On October 21, 2025, the PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes held its first-ever Military Heroes Golf Classic at The Golf Club in Briar's Creek, located on John's Island, South Carolina. With immense pride, the foundation announced that this inaugural event successfully raised over $65,000 aimed at supporting veterans in their transitions from military service to civilian life.
James Schenck, CEO of the PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from participants and sponsors during the event. "We are thrilled to have raised over $65,000 in our first year hosting a golf classic in South Carolina and look forward to continuing to support our military heroes who have made profound sacrifices for our nation," he stated.
The event highlighted not only the PenFed Foundation's commitment but also the passion of individuals like Board Member John Flynn. Known for his extensive 40-year career in financial services, Flynn has played a crucial role in advocating for veterans. His personal connection to this cause is evident—having witnessed the challenges faced by veterans first-hand through his family, including a father who served in World War II and a brother who was a Vietnam veteran. Flynn noted, "My wife Michelle and I were first impressed by the foundation when we attended the annual gala 10 years ago, and having never served in the military myself, it touched me personally. I am honored to support the PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes in their commitment to help veterans transition from their incredibly brave and selfless service to our country to civilian life."
Beyond this event in South Carolina, the PenFed Foundation has a rich history of philanthropy. Over the last 25 years, it has distributed more than $55 million in financial support, positively impacting over 150,000 military families. This includes raising over $1 million at their 22nd annual golf classic held at the prestigious Congressional Country Club outside Washington D.C.
Founded in 2001, the PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes aims to help veterans navigate the often daunting transition to civilian life. Affiliated with the PenFed Credit Union, the organization ensures that more of every donation goes directly to its programs, as the credit union covers all salaries and administrative expenses for the foundation. This operational model allows for greater direct support to veterans and military families in need.
For those aspiring to continue supporting the cause, contributions can be directed to the PenFed Foundation via their website at www.penfedfoundation.org. The continued success of events like the Military Heroes Golf Classic exemplifies a growing community dedicated to uplifting those who have served the nation.
As the PenFed Foundation prepares for future initiatives, the hope remains that not only will the financial contributions continue to grow, but also the reach and impact on the lives of many veterans and their families.
