Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School Receives Generous $210,000 Gift for Student Support
Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School Receives Significant $210,000 Donation
Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School has been honored with a remarkable gift of $210,000, dedicated to the memory of Dinos Iordanou, the late co-founder and non-executive chairman of Vantage Risk. This contribution reflects not just a financial boon but also a tribute to Iordanou's lasting legacy, intertwining his belief in the transformative power of education with real opportunities for students.
The significant donation was facilitated by Vantage Risk's private equity partners—Carlyle and Hellman & Friedman—along with executives from Vantage Risk itself. The funding will play a crucial role in supporting Cristo Rey Brooklyn's educational initiatives, which blend rigorous college preparatory academics with real-world professional experience through its distinguished Corporate Work-Study Program, a hallmark of the school's approach.
Dinos Iordanou's story is one of determination and entrepreneurial spirit. Arriving in New York City from Cyprus at the young age of 19 with only $250, he tirelessly worked to finance his education at New York University by taking on various jobs, including pumping gas. This narrative is emblematic of the ethos that Cristo Rey Brooklyn aims to instill in its students: that with hard work, resilience, and support, anyone can realize their dreams.
Investing in the Future
This recent donation will help to fund immediate operational requirements for the school, thereby ensuring that its students can continue to benefit from high-quality educational programs and support services. In addition, the gift will establish a new scholarship initiative, providing two annual scholarships of $2,500 each for four years, aimed at deserving graduates starting with the Class of 2026. This initiative will bridge the financial aid gap, making higher education more accessible.
Vantage Risk is also partnering with Christo Rey Brooklyn's Corporate Work-Study Program, committing to host two students and cover the portion of tuition that isn’t met by family contributions or work-study earnings. By eliminating these financial barriers, Vantage Risk is paving the way for students to complete their studies without the added concern of financial strain.
The inspiration drawn from Iordanou's values—unyielding perseverance, generosity, and influential leadership—permeates the culture of Cristo Rey Brooklyn. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the potential that exists when determination meets opportunity. As Alan Garcia, vice president of Corporate Work Study at Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School, succinctly puts it,
