Restoring Trust in the Used Car Industry
In a groundbreaking initiative designed to restore trust within the used car industry, IDOM, known for its marquee brand Gulliver, hosted the very first joint negotiation contest featuring seven brands on December 17, 2025. The contest titled "Changing the Used Car Industry. Determining the True No.1. - Proving Negotiation Skills that Build Trust!" highlights the importance of enhancing customer relations and service quality within the sector.
Purpose and Overview of the Contest
The primary goal of this contest is to reinstate trust in the used car market. By fostering transparency and accurately assessing negotiation skills, the event aimed not only to bolster confidence in the industry but also to kickstart healthy competition amongst brands. By publicly showcasing negotiations, participants were encouraged to learn from each other, ultimately lifting the overall customer service standards in the sector.
This innovative contest was conceptualized by three companies: IDOM, Nextage, and Car Seven Digifield, featuring a total of seven brands. Each participating company selected one representative from both the buying and selling divisions to compete in the contest. Rather than focusing on the technical aspects of buying or selling, the contest emphasized the essential negotiating ability to deliver a sense of safety and satisfaction to customers.
To ensure fairness in the judging process, the organizers invited industry experts including automotive media representatives and etiquette instructors, assessing participants based on criteria such as "clarity of explanation," "avoidance of coercive tactics," and "customer-centric perspectives."
Contest Results and Participant Reactions
From IDOM, two exemplary competitors emerged through internal selection rounds to participate in this prestigious contest, and their performances were commendable:
Buying Division:
- - 1st Place: Toru Yanai – IDOM
Selling Division:
- - 2nd Place: Hinaka Kiyomoto – IDOM
In the buying category, Toru Yanai expressed his thrill at securing the top position amid the pressure, acknowledging the significance of the vehicle buying and selling experience in customers' lives rather than merely a routine transaction for the company. He hopes this contest contributes to the industry's evolution, allowing consumers to select used vehicles that meet their needs rather than feeling they are simply settling for a less desirable choice.
Conversely, Hinaka Kiyomoto expressed disappointment in her second-place finish, yet framed it positively as an opportunity for growth. Her ongoing commitment remains to ensure that customers feel comfortable and confident in their dealings, fostering a trusting environment.
Moving forward, IDOM continues its mission as a leading company in the used car sector, prioritizing customer-oriented service enhancements and striving collectively to create a reliable and accessible market for used cars. Such initiatives are crucial in transforming the landscape of the industry for the better.
