Angel Guild Surges Past One Million Members, Changing Film Industry Dynamics

Angel Reaches an Impressive Milestone

In an unprecedented shift within the film and TV industry, Angel, a platform curated by the Angel Guild, has crossed a remarkable threshold of one million paying members. This burgeoning community, comprised of supporters from 170 different countries, is not just adding heft to the platform; they are reshaping the narrative landscape of entertainment by voting on which projects should be showcased on both large and small screens.

Jeffrey Harmon, Co-founder and Chief Content Officer of Angel Studios, emphasizes that this platform represents a clear movement towards democratizing film selections, breaking away from the traditional Hollywood gatekeepers. “Angel is a movement seeking to replace the Hollywood gatekeepers with the audience,” said Harmon. He iterates a crucial tenet of the platform: no film can greenlight progress without the approval of its Guild members. This fundamentally changes the way films are commissioned and produced, allowing the audience's preferences to drive content creation.

The Power of the Guild Members

Angel Guild members are key players in every aspect of Angel's operations. Boasting significant clout, they directly influence what films get funding and distribution. When filmmakers submit their projects to Angel, it is the Guild members who vote on concept videos and completed films, ensuring that only those meeting their approval go forward. This inversion of power is distinctly different from the conventional model where studio executives have carte blanche over film choices - here, the audience takes the wheel.

This empowerment of members is evidenced by Angel's enviable metrics: Angel movies, on average, boast a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the highest among major studios. The ongoing growth of memberships is propelled by a rich array of new content becoming available on the platform. For instance, in February alone, over 350,000 new viewers joined the community, reflecting an increasing appetite for fresh and diverse narratives.

Since the beginning of the year, Angel has introduced over 13 new films, 54 episodes, and various specials, further enriching their library and expanding the potential for audience engagement. Members enjoy additional perks too, such as full access to stream new releases each week, creating an ongoing relationship that fosters loyalty and community involvement.

Recent and Upcoming Releases

The timing of this milestone coincides with the launch of Angel's latest film, RULE BREAKERS, which has received significant praise, achieving an A CinemaScore and impressive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 97% PopcornMeter score and an 81% Critics Score. Such successes reinforce the platform’s strategy of giving voice to its members, affirming that they are indeed part of a significant movement in film.

Looking ahead, Angel is set to release THE KING OF KINGS, an animated epic expected to debut in at least 40 international markets by April 11. Additionally, THE LAST RODEO is on schedule to hit theaters by Memorial Day, ensuring the momentum continues.

Angel Studios: A New Era in Storytelling

Established as a values-driven distribution company, Angel Studios aims to amplify narratives that resonate with mainstream audiences. By aligning their business model with audience preferences, Angel Studios is not only reinventing how stories are told but also redefining who gets to tell them. The support from over one million Guild members is a testament to the changing tide in the entertainment landscape, signaling an era where the viewer and audience engagement play pivotal roles in the filmmaking process.
