Culture in Motion™ Launches in Southern California Bringing Art and Empowerment to Communities

Culture in Motion™ Launching in Southern California

A new nationwide arts and empowerment initiative, Culture in Motion™, developed by The Apollo and Kwanza Jones, will kick off during Grammy Week in January 2026. This innovative program aims to bring the vibrant culture stemming from The Apollo directly into communities across Southern California, transforming local spaces into hubs of cultural exchange and creative expression.

The launch will immerse communities in the dynamic spirit of The Apollo, featuring culturally-rich programs that reflect the diverse voices and histories of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. It aims to create inclusive cultural experiences through four key pillars: art access, community participation, empowerment, and legacy.

Robert Sausedo, President and CEO of Community Build, Inc., articulated the ambition of this initiative: "Culture in Motion perfectly encapsulates Kwanza Jones's SUPERCHARGED movement—investing in culture, expanding human potential, and honoring the traditions of cultural institutions like The Apollo and communities such as those in Los Angeles. By engaging deeply within communities, we turn shared values into community assets, strengthening the creative economy."

The project encourages collaboration from artists and creators, who volunteer their talents to uphold The Apollo's mission. They contribute to a cultural exchange that resonates with a broader community spirit, showcased both in traditional venues and public spaces, ensuring that the experience is accessible to all.

Culture in Motion will officially commence in Los Angeles, celebrating this launch as an extension of The Apollo's legacy beyond the walls of theaters. Kwanza Jones, the executive producer of the initiative, expressed excitement about this vibrant cultural expression: "Culture doesn’t stand still—and neither do we. Culture in Motion is a living embodiment of art, empowerment, and community, pushing creative boundaries. We aim to inspire engagement and reflection among individuals within their communities, inviting them to see themselves within a multitude of possibilities."

Ahead of the Southern California event, a ceremonial send-off will take place in Harlem, marking The Apollo's 92nd anniversary. This historic event symbolizes the transformation of The Apollo from a static venue into a fluid cultural experience tailored to modern audiences. Michelle Ebanks, President and CEO of The Apollo, emphasized its importance: *"For over ninety years, The Apollo has been a nexus of culture, community, and infinite possibilities—championing community engagement while nurturing generations of artists. With Culture in Motion, we extend this tradition into new neighborhoods and open avenues for participation, creation, and connection.
