Shining Bright: L'Oréal Japan Achieves Gold for Inclusion Excellence for Four Consecutive Years

L'Oréal Japan Receives Gold at PRIDE Index 2025 for Four Straight Years

L'Oréal Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of the world-renowned cosmetics giant L'Oréal Group based in Paris, has proudly announced its achievement of the highest rating, "Gold," at the PRIDE Index 2025 for the fourth consecutive year. This recognition is awarded by the nonprofit organization Work with Pride and marks a significant milestone for L'Oréal’s ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all employees, particularly those from LGBTQIA+ communities, can thrive.

Since initially receiving this award in 2022, L'Oréal Japan has remained steadfast in its dedication to fostering a workplace that allows LGBTQIA+ employees to feel secure and fully utilize their potential. The company's purpose, "Creating Beauty that Moves the World," reflects its belief in beauty being diverse, fair, and inclusive.

In alignment with this philosophy, L'Oréal has established a comprehensive policy regarding human rights that explicitly prohibits any form of discrimination—be it based on gender, sexual identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, nationality, or religion.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

L'Oréal Japan actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) both internally and externally. Their mission, "Beauty for All, Beauty for Each," firmly roots diversity within the organizational culture from its inception. The company is committed to developing a work environment where every employee can shine authentically. This is achieved through flexible working arrangements and robust employee benefits tailored to the diverse needs of their workforce.

Key Initiatives for DEI in 2025

  • - Strengthening Education: L'Oréal implements regular training on LGBTQIA+ awareness for all employees. Starting this year, the company has also introduced DEI education for mid-career employees to enhance understanding across the organization. Additionally, workshops focused on allyship for newly recruited beauty consultants, including those from Aesop—newly integrated into L'Oréal Japan—are also on the agenda to expand the inclusivity efforts.

  • - Full Implementation of Partnership System: Commencing in October 2024, L'Oréal will fully adopt a partnership system that offers the same benefits to common-law and same-sex partners as those available to legally married couples. This initiative aims to support diverse lifestyles and relationship structures.

  • - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Week: Each December, L'Oréal hosts a dedicated week for employees to explore discussions around diversity and inclusion, featuring lectures and interactive workshops focused on LGBTQIA+ topics.

  • - Promotion of Allyship and Internal Momentum: With the number of allies in the DEI Committee increasing from 36 to 80 last year, there is a growing grassroots momentum toward understanding and respecting diversity within the workplace. Notably, participation in the Tokyo Pride Parade has reached record levels, showcasing a company-wide commitment to inclusion.

Leadership's Perspective

Jean-Pierre Charriton, President of L'Oréal Japan, expressed his pride in achieving the 'Gold' standard for four years running. He stated, "L'Oréal is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the board. Our DEI Committee and ally members play a crucial role in engaging employees and fostering a culture of mutual respect. I am particularly thrilled about the widespread request for participation in the Tokyo Pride parade, which is a testament to how deeply embedded these values are in our corporate culture. We will continue to push the boundaries of inclusion in our workplace environment."

L'Oréal Japan is committed to further strengthening its efforts toward LGBTQIA+ inclusion and ensuring a workplace where respect and equity are paramount for every employee.
