Dentsu Research Launches VeCrea: A New Era for Secure Identity Management

Dentsu Research Introduces VeCrea

Dentsu Research, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has officially launched VeCrea, a comprehensive authentication and authorization platform set to enhance the integration of Identity Providers (IdP) for businesses. Starting from March 5, 2026, VeCrea aims to transform the way organizations manage their ID infrastructures by providing a user-centric approach that empowers individuals to manage their own information securely.

In an era marked by rapid advancements in AI and data interconnectivity, the necessity for a reliable trust framework has become increasingly crucial. Companies often face challenges due to the coexistence of various IdPs across their operations, leading to issues such as duplicated IDs and excessive manual labor involved in reconciliation processes. Dentsu Research has been addressing these issues through the development of solutions aimed at issuing, managing, and verifying Verifiable Credentials (VC) since 2022. The launch of VeCrea is the culmination of extensive research and collaboration across multiple industries to ensure the platform is both functional and reliable.

Overview and Features of VeCrea

User-Centric ID Management
VeCrea eliminates the need for extensive data merging processes traditionally required for ID integration. By utilizing a user-driven model, individuals can confirm their identity and attributes, significantly reducing the workload previously associated with data integration tasks. The platform supports both advanced ID management through VCs and lightweight management options leveraging existing IdPs, providing flexibility based on an organization's specific needs.

Minimal Adjustments to Existing Systems
The architecture of VeCrea allows it to function as a hub for multiple IdPs without necessitating significant system overhauls. This enables users to access multiple services with a single authentication, creating a seamless login experience akin to OneID, while maintaining the existing ecosystem of IdPs.

Enhanced Privacy and Security
VeCrea incorporates selective disclosure mechanisms that require only the minimum necessary information to be shared. This structure limits the burden on businesses to maintain extensive personal data databases, effectively reducing management costs and the risks associated with data breaches.

Use Cases from PoC

During the Proof of Concept (PoC) phase, various use cases were explored, including:
  • - Identity verification and authority delegation in the finance and payment sector
  • - Enhancements in identity verification for mobility and rental services
  • - Validation of qualifications and achievements in education and research
  • - Integration and authority management of IDs within enterprises

Future Developments

Dentsu Research plans to expand VeCrea's functionalities to include AI agents capable of handling permissions for payment and booking functions. They are also considering offering VeCrea as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, aiming to create a robust interoperability framework that spans various industries.

The goal is to build a secure certification and authorization infrastructure that connects people, enterprises, and AI in this era of generative AI, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of trust in digital transactions and the establishment of sustainable digital service foundations.
