Exploring the Role of Construction Managers in BIM Workflows: A Seminar by Maeda Corporation

Overview of the Seminar

On August 1st, 2025, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a significant seminar led by Yoshimitsu Sone, Head of the Construction Production Technology Department at Maeda Corporation. This session, titled “Construction BIM Workflows,” will delve into how construction managers and specialized contractors can effectively participate in the design phase workflows of Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Significance of BIM in Construction

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has revolutionized the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry by facilitating improved collaboration, efficiency, and productivity through digital modeling. This seminar will highlight specific workflows associated with BIM, emphasizing the importance of involvement from construction managers and specialized contractors right from the design stage.

Key Topics and Agenda

Under the expert guidance of Yoshimitsu Sone, attendees will explore:

1. Trends in Construction BIM Workflows: We will first discuss the latest developments in BIM workflows as observed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, along with insights from the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors.

2. Case Study on Rebar Work: The practical application of rebar construction will serve as a case study. Participants will learn about:
- An overview of BIM workflows applicable to rebar work.
- Implementation strategies for effective rebar layout design using BIM technologies that enable automatic placement and inspection.
- Potential effects and challenges when adapting these practices in real-life projects.

3. Future Developments: The final section will consider how BIM and ICT can become standard practices in everyday operations and their role in future data integration across the industry.

4. Q&A Session and Networking: An opportunity for attendees to directly ask questions and exchange contact information will also be provided, encouraging networking among participants and the speaker.
