Hitachi Launches HMAX Data Center for Integrated Operations in Sustainable Environments

Hitachi Unveils HMAX Data Center Solution

In response to the escalating demand for data centers amid the proliferation of AI technologies, Hitachi Ltd. has officially rolled out a groundbreaking solution: the HMAX Data Center. This initiative aims to pave the way for sustainable data centers by providing unified management capabilities across various operational sectors such as power, IT, and cooling systems. The HMAX Data Center integrates these components to facilitate autonomous operations and comprehensive optimization, effectively addressing the pressing challenges of energy consumption and operational complexity in contemporary data centers.

As operations within data centers grow increasingly complex—due to the intertwining dependencies between server performance and infrastructure loads—efficient management becomes crucial. The HMAX Data Center addresses these challenges by leveraging Hitachi's unique strengths in IT, operational technology (OT), and product integration. Under the leadership of the Strategic SIB Business Unit, this solution suite has been meticulously developed and structured to meet market demands.

The first of its kind offering, the core service named HARC for Data Center, has begun its rollout primarily in North America. This service draws on the successful track record of Hitachi Application Reliability Centers (HARC), which has enhanced cloud operations for over 80 global clients. HARC's expertise, combined with Hitachi Group’s operational knowledge and physical AI, fosters the integrated monitoring of power, IT, and cooling resources from multiple vendors. This collaboration will further allow for insightful analysis of equipment interdependencies and the formulation of targeted improvement strategies.

Furthermore, Hitachi plans to introduce a new data center integration management service tailored for the Japanese market beginning January 2027, designed to address local needs while building on the successful strategies implemented globally.

Looking ahead, Hitachi intends to expand its service offerings through co-creation with customers and partners, incorporating physical AI alongside operational insights. They aim to optimize energy use, from grid power to self-generated energy and storage solutions, enhance cooling controls, provide early warning detection for outages, and maximize throughput through IT workload optimization. Ultimately, their goal is to achieve comprehensive optimization across the entire data center infrastructure.

As outlined by Jun Taniguchi, Executive Officer and CEO of the Strategic SIB Business Unit at Hitachi, achieving sustainable data centers requires not only operational improvements of individual equipment but also the integrated control of systems across the infrastructure. Hitachi is one of the few companies that possess a comprehensive portfolio of products, services, and operational expertise in energy, cooling, and IT workload management.
