Pratt & Whitney's GTF™ Engines Reach Major Milestone in Orders

In an impressive display of market confidence, Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has seen nearly 1,100 orders and commitments for its GTF™ engines since the start of 2025. Airlines such as Aegean Airlines, Air Niugini, ANA, Frontier Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, and Wizz Air have all made significant commitments, with two additional unnamed customers also joining the fray. With this latest round of orders, the cumulative total of GTF engine orders now exceeds 12,000, coming from over 90 customers globally.

Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, commented on the developments, stating, “We continue to see robust demand for the GTF engine, as evidenced by the substantial number of orders we’ve received only halfway into the year. These orders showcase the confidence our customers have in Pratt & Whitney, reflecting the GTF's superior fuel efficiency and performance.” He also hinted at the upcoming entry into service of the GTF Advantage next year, which received FAA certification earlier this year. This engine is expected to provide enhanced range capabilities, improved fuel efficiency, and increased durability, further fortifying the GTF's market position.

The GTF engine is lauded as the most fuel-efficient option in the single aisle market, offering up to 20% reduced fuel consumption while maintaining a 75% smaller noise footprint than previous generations. To date, approximately 2,400 aircraft powered by GTF engines have been successfully delivered to more than 85 clients worldwide. In addition, the new GTF Hot Section Plus (HS+) option will significantly enhance the engine's durability, nearly doubling its time on wing, which is a critical factor for airlines aiming to maximize their operational efficiency.

The genius behind the GTF engine lies in its revolutionary geared architecture, which is designed to be the foundation for next-generation technologies. By the mid-2030s, it is anticipated that these engines will have logged over 250 million flying hours, further establishing their reliability in the aviation sector.
