Introduction

The Tokaido Shinkansen is taking steps to enhance the travel experience for families. This year, in addition to the summer holiday, special family-friendly cars will be available on weekends in July and September, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey for families traveling together.

Family-Friendly Cars Availability

Summer Holiday

• - Period: August 8 (Friday) – August 17 (Sunday), 2025
• - Daily Availability: 2 to 4 round trips available each day, totaling 50 trips.

Long Weekends

• - Marine Day: July 19 (Saturday) and July 21 (Monday), 2025
• - Respect for the Aged Day: September 13 (Saturday) and September 15 (Monday), 2025
• - Daily Availability: 1 to 2 round trips available each day, totaling 6 trips for each weekend.

Note: Please refer to the separate document for the exact trains setup, and the family-friendly cars are located in car 12 of the Nozomi between Tokyo and Osaka. Special seating for large luggage is not available.

Ticket Purchase Information

• - Where to Buy: Tickets can be purchased at "EX Service" points, travel agencies, and reserved seat ticket vending machines.
• - EX Service Benefits: Book tickets easily online and select your preferred seat from the seat map. Membership details, including annual fees, can be found on the Express Reservation website or the Smart EX website.
• - Restrictions: Some travel agency counters and other companies' online reservation services may not offer these tickets. There are no age restrictions for children traveling.

• - Sales Start: Tickets will be available one month before the travel date at 10 AM.
• - Advance Booking: Although the EX Service allows reservations up to one year in advance, family-friendly cars are excluded from this option. For future announcement regarding ticket sales, follow the official X account [Parent-Child Travel【JR Tokai Official】 (@oyako_tabi)].

Important Notes

• - General passengers without children may also board these family-friendly cars, ensuring a diverse traveling experience.

Additional Fun for Kids

Enjoy the official JR Tokai online game "Play with the Shinkansen." This browser-based game features various activities related to the Tokaido Shinkansen and the linear train. Kids can complete puzzles with pictures of trains or move stationary trains inside a station.
