Energy Abundance Brings Data City to Life as the Largest Green Data Hub

Energy Abundance Unveils Data City in Texas

In a significant step towards revolutionizing energy consumption in the tech industry, Energy Abundance Development Corporation is launching Data City in Texas, set to become the world's largest behind-the-meter data center hub. This ambitious project, covering 50,000 acres near Laredo, is designed to produce 5GW of power, exclusively sourced from 100% renewable energy.

A Renewable Energy Revolution

As demand for advanced AI data centers continues to escalate, hyperscalers have encountered challenges in securing adequate green energy without straining existing power grids. Data City seeks to address these pressing issues, showcasing a model built on combining wind, solar, battery storage, and dual-fuel gas turbines. Initially relying on natural gas produced in Texas, the site aims to transition toward utilizing 100% green hydrogen from its accompanying 2TWh Hydrogen City salt dome storage facility.

Phased Development for Future Needs

The construction of Data City will occur in phases, starting with an initial installation of 300 MW and 1 million square feet of data center space scheduled for launch in 2026. As demand grows, the project plans to rapidly scale up to 5GW and over 15 million square feet of leasable facilities. This carefully considered approach ensures that the infrastructure can efficiently meet the needs of high-demand AI workloads.

Design and Infrastructure

Data City will feature innovative technological designs, including power-dense racking solutions and a centralized cooling system optimized for direct-to-chip liquid cooling. This design is critical for supporting the latest processors from NVIDIA, enhancing performance, and efficiency.

Brian Maxwell, Founder and CEO of Energy Abundance, comments on the project's pioneering status, stating: "Data City is a world-class infrastructure initiative, a model for future projects that integrates clean energy ambitions with advanced technology. This facility is pivotal not just for Texas, but for the USA's position in the global AI race."

Strategic Importance

The strategic significance of Data City cannot be overstated, especially given projections from McKinsey, which anticipate global demand for data center power to skyrocket to 298GW by 2030—a figure that triples current requirements. The management team at Energy Abundance brings a wealth of experience in large-scale energy initiatives, having managed projects totaling over 3,000MW globally.

Former McKinsey Senior Partner Andy Steinhubl emphasizes the need for improved data center infrastructures, remarking: "To win the AI race, we need to focus on innovative, high-output facilities like Data City that provide low-cost, renewable energy effectively."

The Vision Ahead

Maxwell also highlights the importance of behind-the-meter projects like Data City in forging a path towards energy abundance. He states: "Our commitment is to lead a quintessentially American effort that catalyzes the AI revolution while adhering to sustainable practices, ensuring that the power of tomorrow is green and abundant."
