Terra Charge Launches Public Road EV Charging Stations in Yokohama

Terra Charge Co., Ltd., based in Minato, Tokyo, has officially started operations for Japan's first public road EV fast-charging stations in Yokohama as part of the city's initiative to promote a carbon-neutral society. This initiative is not only groundbreaking but also reflects the country's burgeoning commitment to facilitating the use of electric vehicles (EVs).

Launched on January 20, 2026, these stations are located at three public facilities and aim to enhance EV charging infrastructure, encouraging more people to switch to electric vehicles. The plan was approved following a competitive proposal selection process by the city, and marks a significant step towards a more sustainable urban environment.

Background on EV Adoption and Infrastructure

As Japan aims for carbon neutrality by 2050, the acceleration of EV deployment alongside robust charging infrastructure is crucial. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has set an ambitious target of installing 300,000 EV chargers nationwide by 2030, indicating a need for more reliable and convenient charging systems across the country.

Currently, around 68,000 chargers are installed, leaving a significant gap to be filled. Terra Charge is stepping up to make a meaningful contribution to this network by providing versatile and user-friendly charging solutions. Their strategy revolves around integrating charging stations into everyday travel routes so that EV users can easily charge their vehicles wherever they are.

What sets Terra Charge apart is their commitment to offering installation services without any initial, operational, or maintenance costs for facilities. They utilize Japanese-made hardware to minimize supply chain disruptions and have a dedicated 24/7 call center in place, ensuring robust support and management for users. This level of reliability makes using the service safe and worry-free for both providers and consumers.
