Furuhashi Weaving Celebrates 100 Years with a Debut at Tetete Business Fair 2025

Furuhashi Weaving Co. Ltd., a textile company based in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, which has been dedicated to the production of fabrics using natural materials since its founding in 1928, is set to exhibit for the first time at the "Tetete Business Fair 2025," taking place from September 3 to 5, 2025, at the Spiral Hall in Aoyama, Tokyo.

A New Approach to Textile Presentation

To raise awareness of the challenges faced by their fiber-producing region, Furuhashi Weaving sees this opportunity as a means to present their products through innovative expressions. At the fair, they will showcase notable items from their ORIYATO project, which includes unisex apparel and bags designed for daily use. This initiative aims to foster connections with like-minded partners who share the vision of paving a new future together.

About Furuhashi Weaving

As the company approaches its centennial, Furuhashi Weaving specializes in crafting fabric primarily from cotton and adheres to traditional methods, notably using rare shuttle looms. The result is high-quality textiles known for their exceptional texture and comfort, which have garnered attention from top domestic and international brands.

However, the textile industry faces considerable challenges, including the aging workforce and closures of businesses within the fiber production sector. Currently, only about 1.8% of textile goods in circulation can be considered genuinely made in Japan, making it difficult for these high-quality fabrics to reach consumers and gain recognition.

In response to these challenges, Furuhashi Weaving is committed to using its product offerings as a means of communicating these issues. The company hopes that this exhibition will connect them with numerous stakeholders—both creators and end-users—who can help elevate the profile of the renowned Hamamatsu textile industry to the next generation.

Highlights of the Exhibition

The fair will feature several key products from the ORIYATO project:

1. Weaver Pants: Unisex pants co-created with fashion designer Hiroko Yano. Inspired by workwear, these pants, crafted from Furuhashi's signature "Boil Weather" material, combine durability with comfort. They are available in white, beige, and black.

2. Selvedge Blouse: A lightweight blouse made in collaboration with the patternmaker Ayaori and sewing factory Anji's. This blouse features a special typewriter fabric woven from extremely fine yarn, weighing just about 80 grams. It maintains the unique selvedge edges, showcasing the craftsmanship of the shuttle loom.

3. Dress Shirt (Sample Display): A unisex dress shirt crafted from Code Lane fabric, a hallmark of Furuhashi Weaving, which utilizes a blend of fine cotton threads to create comfortable wear.

4. 'F' Bag Series: Introduced in collaboration with a local boutique approaching its 50th anniversary. The series features both tote and shoulder bags crafted from the "Boil Weather" fabric, highlighting a simple design with a focus on fashionability.

Experience a Century of Craftsmanship

The Tetete Business Fair serves as a meeting ground for creators and those who convey their stories, ensuring that products reach the end users. The event will feature 75 exhibitors from various sectors such as home goods, food, apparel, and furniture, all rooted in local craftsmanship.
