Celebrating 35 Years of L.A. Works
On the evening of November 5, 2026, L.A. Works, a prominent nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary. Over the years, L.A. Works has united Angelenos, transforming their enthusiasm for community service into tangible action. The celebration will take place at the In-N-Out Burger Sound Space at KROQ and will feature special recognition for Derek Fisher, the five-time NBA champion and beloved Los Angeles Lakers legend, who will be honored with the inaugural L.A. Works Community Leadership Award.
A Night of Celebration and Community
The event is expected to attract a diverse gathering of community and business leaders, volunteers, and supporters, all coming together to acknowledge the incredible impact L.A. Works has had on the local community. The evening will be filled with live entertainment, delectable food and cocktails, and engaging stories highlighting the power of community service. Festivities are scheduled from 5:30 PM to 8:15 PM.
Derek Fisher’s recognition stems from his demonstrated commitment to service and genuine partnership with the local community. Deborah Brutchey, Executive Director of L.A. Works, emphasizes Fisher's inspiring role during the MLK Volunteer Festival, where he not only motivated thousands of volunteers but also took the time to engage with them directly. Fisher's actions exemplify the ethos of L.A. Works, which believes that meaningful change can be created through collective efforts.
Fundraising for a Purpose
In conjunction with the anniversary celebration, L.A. Works is aiming to raise $35,000. These funds will be utilized to continue fostering a culture of volunteerism across Los Angeles, which is vital in addressing various societal challenges faced by vulnerable communities. With volunteers contributing over 175,000 hours of service in 2025 alone, translating to an impressive value of over $7 million, L.A. Works plays a pivotal role in supporting numerous nonprofits throughout Los Angeles County.
Honoring a Community Leader
The decision to honor Derek Fisher was not made lightly. His ability to connect with people and understand their motivations makes him a perfect ambassador for the values that L.A. Works embodies. As he continues his commitment to this cause, the organization hopes to inspire others to engage actively in service. “When people come together in service, they can create meaningful change,” Brutchey states, underlining the mission that has driven L.A. Works for more than three decades.
