Introducing MEGAN baby: The Eco-Friendly Mini Bag by FUMIKODA

FUMIKODA Unveils MEGAN baby: A Sustainable Mini Bag

On May 20, 2025, FUMIKODA, an innovative bag brand dedicated to sustainable manufacturing, will release its latest product, the MEGAN baby. This mini bag is not just a stylish accessory; it embodies the brand's commitment to environmental conservation by utilizing recycled nylon made from discarded fishing nets.

FUMIKODA, based in Meguro, Tokyo, has made it a priority to create products that contribute positively to the environment. A portion of the sales revenue from MEGAN baby will be donated to the non-profit organization ALLAINCE FOR THE BLUE to support important marine ecosystem conservation initiatives, particularly focusing on the restoration of seagrass beds.

The MEGAN baby is actually the third installment in a series that employs recycled fishing nets. The initial product, the MEGAN handbag, gained notable media attention for its successful blend of functional design and innovative materials aimed at marine conservation, and its first production run sold out rapidly. Due to popular demand for a more compact version suitable for travel or casual outings, the company introduced this new mini bag.

Available in three colors — Ocean Black, Ocean Blue, and a FUMIKODA Monogram — the MEGAN baby features handles made from artificial leather sourced from biomass materials derived from thinned bamboo. During the pre-sale, which offers a limited number of items, customers will receive a complimentary shoulder strap ($20) when purchasing the bag, priced at a special pre-sale rate of ¥36,300, down from its regular price of ¥38,500.

Addressing the Ocean Plastic Crisis

Japan's marine plastic pollution problem has escalated in recent years, with discarded fishing nets constituting nearly 40% of the ocean's plastic waste. In response, FUMIKODA has collaborated with the ALLAINCE FOR THE BLUE to recover these nets in Hokkaido. At a factory in Aichi Prefecture, the nets are processed into high-quality recycled nylon fabric, an initiative that has won the prestigious Grand Prize at the first NIKKEI Blue Ocean Award.

By integrating this material into its products, FUMIKODA aims not only to raise awareness about environmental issues, but also to provide customers with the opportunity to make eco-friendly choices in their daily lives. A portion of the profits from MEGAN baby will further support the restoration of critical marine ecosystems through ongoing donations.

Features of MEGAN baby

Weighing in at only 300 grams, MEGAN baby is extraordinarily lightweight, making it a practical choice for everyday use. Thanks to water-repellent treatment, it can withstand rainy days without concern. Despite its compact size, the bag has ample space, accommodating a 500ml water bottle, a folding umbrella, and a long wallet.

To enhance convenience, the bag includes two inner pockets and an outer pocket suitable for a smartphone. Additionally, the detachable strap allows for versatile use as either a shoulder bag or a handbag, offering two styles in one. The wide shoulder strap is designed for comfort and does not dig into the shoulder, enabling users to coordinate with various outfits while on the go.

MEGAN baby is perfect for quick outings during travels or for daily use in the city.
