Exploring the Reality and Future of Nuclear Energy in Japan's Power Demand Crisis

JPI Seminar: Exploring Nuclear Energy's Role

On November 20th, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a seminar featuring Shoichi Ito, a senior specialist from the Japan Energy Economics Institute's Resource, Fuel and Energy Security Unit. This event will delve into the realities and future outlook regarding the "nuclear revival" in the context of the current energy supply and demand crisis.

The Context of the Seminar

As demand for electricity surges due to the expansion of AI applications and data centers, there is a growing international momentum for nuclear energy adoption. In this seminar, we will focus on Japan's emphasis on nuclear energy in light of its GX (Green Transformation) strategy. Meanwhile, countries like Russia and China are aggressively expanding their presence in the nuclear market of the Global South.

The prevalence of division on a global scale raises concerns about the declining influence of Western countries in the international nuclear market, which poses risks not just to energy markets and business, but also to the safe and peaceful use of nuclear power and nuclear security.
