Bausch Health Celebrates 2026 Gastrointestinal Health Scholars
On August 17, 2026, Bausch Health Companies Inc. announced the recipients of the 2026 Salix Gastrointestinal Health Scholars Program, continuing its commitment to support students with gastrointestinal conditions. For the seventh consecutive year, the program awarded ten exemplary students with a scholarship of $10,000 each to aid in their educational pursuits.
Aimee Lenar, President of US Pharma at Bausch Health, emphasized the impact of the program, noting, "The extraordinary response to our scholarship program is a testament to the resilience, ambition, and perseverance of students living with gastrointestinal conditions. Their determination to pursue educational goals despite challenges is genuinely inspiring."
The selection process for this year's scholarships was rigorous, requiring candidates to submit personal essays demonstrating how their gastrointestinal issues have influenced their academic journeys. The independent panel overseeing the evaluations considered over 450 applications, ensuring that each recipient was not only deserving but also reflective of the spirit of the program.
Available in three scholarship categories—Undergraduate Scholar Awards, Graduate Scholar Awards, and the Working and/or Single Parent's Scholar Award—this program recognizes the diverse educational paths undertaken by students. The winners ranged from those pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees to working parents balancing their studies with family responsibilities.
This year’s recipients shared how the scholarship will aid their educational pursuits and future ambitions. For instance, Nishant Chadha, who aspires to become a physician, expressed gratitude, stating, "Living with Crohn's disease has shaped my perspective and aspirations as a future physician. My experiences taught me the importance of advocacy and compassion." Similarly, Churnika Gudla Venkata Silva highlighted her dream of becoming a pediatric gastroenterologist as a source of inspiration and motivation.
Sean Gibson echoed these sentiments, noting, "This scholarship serves as a meaningful reminder that resilience can turn life's challenges into opportunities. It strengthens my confidence as I continue my goals while contributing to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease community."
