Spirit Airlines Announces Major Shift in Senior Leadership Team

Leadership Transition at Spirit Airlines

In an important announcement on April 7, 2025, Spirit Aviation Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Spirit Airlines, revealed a substantial shift in its senior leadership. Effective immediately, Ted Christie, the current President and Chief Executive Officer, has stepped down from his position and the Board of Directors. This significant change marks the end of his notable 13-year tenure with the company.

The Board has initiated the process to find a permanent successor for Christie. Until that appointment is finalized, an interim leadership team is instituted under the Office of the President, comprising three key executives: Fred Cromer, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer; John Bendoraitis, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; and Thomas Canfield, Senior Vice President and General Counsel. This team will steer the company through this transitional phase.

Robert Milton, Chairman of Spirit Airlines, expressed gratitude towards Christie for his relentless dedication and contributions over the years. He remarked on the challenging times that Christie helped the company navigate, which included the turbulent phases caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple strategic shifts, culminating in recent corporate restructuring efforts. Milton conveyed well wishes to Christie for his future endeavors, highlighting the impact of his leadership during crucial periods for the airline.

In addition to Christie’s departure, the company announced that Matt Klein, the Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, would also be stepping down from his role. He is succeeded by Rana Ghosh, who takes the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, effective immediately. Ghosh, who joined Spirit in 2015, was previously serving as the Company’s Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer since June 2024.

Milton also extended thanks to Klein for his numerous contributions since joining the company in 2016, while also expressing excitement about Ghosh’s new role in guiding the company forward.
