Otelier and Avalara's Integration Enhances Hotel Tax Compliance Efficiency for Operators
Otelier and Avalara: A Revolutionary Integration for Hotel Tax Compliance
In a significant advancement for the hospitality industry, Otelier, a leading data platform dedicated to hotel operations, has unveiled a groundbreaking two-way integration with Avalara, the premium agentic AI specialist in global tax compliance. This momentous collaboration aims to streamline tax compliance operations, a critical aspect often fraught with challenges for hotel finance teams nationwide.
Transforming Tax Obligations
The newly developed integration enables a seamless connection between two pivotal systems: Avalara's extensive tax calculation and compliance capabilities and Otelier Rec, a core component of the Otelier platform. This union allows hotel accounting teams to automatically manage lodging tax compliance while identifying tax discrepancies efficiently.
With the integration in place, daily revenue summaries and essential exemption details are communicated directly from Otelier Rec to Avalara. This automated process facilitates the preparation, filing, and remittance of sales and lodging tax returns, significantly reducing the manual effort typically involved in such tasks.
One of the standout features of this integration is its ability to highlight discrepancies between Avalara's verified tax rates and those applied within the hotel’s Property Management System (PMS). Users can now proactively correct any inconsistencies before reaching the tax preparation stage, thus avoiding potentially costly mistakes.
Enhanced Efficiency and Accuracy
Additionally, Otelier has rolled out a new workflow feature requiring users to document a rationale for any tax-exempt line items. This mechanism not only improves transparency but also enhances the relationship between PMS tax collection and Avalara's rate verification system, thereby ensuring that tax returns are filed accurately and comprehensively.
For hotels operating across various jurisdictions—each with their own tax rates and compliance requirements—this integration offers a more precise and proactive strategy for tax management. Russell Meek, Senior Director of Product at Otelier, emphasized, “Hotel finance teams are under increasing pressure to ensure accuracy across every line of the PL, and taxes are one of the most complex and high-risk areas.
