Go Red for Women Japan Health Seminar 2026: Considering Women's Heart Disease

The Japan Circulation Society is excited to announce the upcoming event titled "Go Red for Women Japan Health Seminar 2026: Raising Awareness About Women's Heart Disease." This esteemed seminar aims to shed light on heart disease, the second leading cause of death among women in Japan, and is set to take place in both Tokyo and Osaka on February 7 and February 21, respectively.

The international initiative, "Go Red for Women®," was launched 21 years ago by the American Heart Association (AHA) with the goal of preventing heart disease, which is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. Every year, the first Friday in February is designated as "National Wear Red Day®" to promote awareness about heart health and encourage proactive measures to combat heart disease.

In Japan, heart disease ranks as the second leading cause of death for women. However, there remains a pervasive misconception that it is primarily a male disease, which contributes to delays in diagnosis and treatment. Specific challenges include a lack of awareness of female-specific conditions, atypical symptoms in women, and increasingly severe heart conditions in older women due to hypertension and lipid abnormalities. Furthermore, the low rates of AED use and health check-ups among women compound these issues.

In response to this pressing situation, the Japan Circulation Society, in collaboration with the AHA, initiated "Go Red for Women Japan" in 2023. Each year, increasing numbers of citizens are participating in the health seminars, focusing on empowering and educating women about their heart health.

This year's seminar features prominent guests, including former professional tennis player Ai Sugiyama in Tokyo and kimono PR ambassadors in Osaka, who will showcase a runway display. The event promises to be an informative and enjoyable experience for attendees, as they learn vital preventive measures against heart diseases.

Participation in the seminar is free of charge, and attendees are encouraged to wear something red to symbolize their support and commitment to heart health. The event requires pre-registration, and interested individuals can currently register online.

Seminar Programs

Both seminars will include key discussions led by expert speakers from the field of cardiology, covering topics tailored specifically for women's heart health, such as recognizing unique symptoms of heart disease in women and lifestyle adjustments to promote heart wellness.

The seminars aim to provide a platform for participants to deepen their understanding of heart disease and forge connections with others who share similar concerns. By creating a welcoming environment, the organizers aspire to encourage a community dialogue around women and heart health.

The initiative emphasizes that heart disease should not be viewed as merely a "men's disease." It strives to dismantle outdated perceptions and promote greater awareness and understanding of how heart disease impacts women specifically.

By participating in this seminar, individuals can contribute to a broader conversation about heart disease and become advocates for awareness and change in their communities.
