Shoichi Making Waves at Texworld Paris 2025: Insights on Recycling Footwear and Bags

Shoichi Shines at Texworld Paris 2025

From September 15 to 17, 2025, Texworld Paris became a hotspot for sustainable practices in the fashion industry. Among the exhibitors, Shoichi Co., Ltd. from Japan made its debut with a specialized focus on recycling services. The event witnessed a remarkable turnout, with 30 companies from 15 different countries visiting Shoichi's booth, of which 60% were decision-makers. This significant participation underscores the growing industry interest in recycling, especially for footwear and bags.

Exhibition Overview

Shoichi's booth was exclusively dedicated to presenting its recycling services, which involve the disassembly, sorting, and repurposing of materials. Among the visitors, 50% were primarily seeking information, while 16.7% represented manufacturing companies involved in producing shoes and garments. Notably, no Japanese companies attended the booth, indicating a potential opportunity for Shoichi to engage more local businesses in the future.

The topics that garnered the most interest included dismantling and resource recovery for shoes and bags, accounting for 36.7% of inquiries, while consultations on 'poly-to-poly' recycling and upcycling represented 16.7% of the discussions. The heightened focus on these topics reflects a broader trend towards resource circulation, even beyond apparel.

Attendee Breakdown

  • - Information Seekers: 15 companies (50%)
  • - Manufacturers (Shoes, Clothing, etc.): 5 companies (16.7%)
  • - International Recyclers: 5 companies (16.7%)
  • - Mutual Introductions with Other Exhibitors: 5 companies (16.7%)

Growing Recycling Needs

During the event, it became clear that the need for recycling services, specifically in sectors beyond textiles, is on the rise. Shoichi reported a processing capacity of approximately 600 tons annually, backed by a robust traceability system involving CCTV monitoring, photographic documentation, and lot management. This focus on transparency and safety ensures that clients can trust in Shoichi's operations, particularly when it comes to brand protection and compliance with recycling standards.

Operations and Capabilities

Shoichi specializes in a wide range of materials, including cotton, polyester, wool, and leather, with its yearly processing abilities reaching 600 tons. The workflow involves various methods of dismantling:
  • - Hand Dismantling: Taking several minutes to an hour per piece, facilitated through partnerships with work support centers.
  • - Mechanical Cutting: Completed within mere minutes.
  • - Felt Processing: Requires 1-2 days per lot, depending on material volume.

The standard lead time varies, projected at around three months for apparel and footwear, and about two months for miscellaneous goods. The company's traceability measures provide added security, incorporating detailed reporting systems to prevent any brand damage during processing.

Navigating Regulatory Landscapes

With Europe leading the charge on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and waste reduction, the necessity for collection, disassembly, and repurposing practices is increasingly emphasized. Particularly in France, conversations around compliance and inventory management have surged among apparel companies and material manufacturers alike. Cross-border projects do face hurdles, such as shipping costs and regulatory barriers, prompting Shoichi to suggest starting locally via their Japan-based inventory.

Commitment to Sustainability

Chairman Shoichi Yamamoto expressed, "We aim to provide transparent and secure operations, entrusted with the resource circulation process, which includes non-apparel items like shoes and bags. Our B2B foundation in inventory disposal enhances our proficiency in sorting and quality control, enabling us to collaborate with stakeholders globally while processing around 600 tons annually."
