GroundWork Rides the LoToJa Classic to Support Safe Childbirth

GroundWork is making a significant impact again this year by participating in the 44th annual LoToJa Classic, one of the longest sanctioned one-day bicycle races in the United States. This marks GroundWork's fourth consecutive year raising funds for We Care Solar, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reliable solar power to health clinics in underserved regions.

The race will kick off from Logan, Utah, covering over 200 miles with a challenging ascent concluding at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on September 12. A diverse group of riders will represent GroundWork, including notable figures such as CEO Ann Will and Board Member Mark Lewis of Lime Rock New Energy, alongside passionate colleagues from across the company.

This year, the campaign has expanded beyond GroundWork, with additional support from Nextpower, SOLV Energy, and Lime Rock New Energy. Altogether, there are seven teams participating in this noble fundraising effort for We Care Solar.

We Care Solar plays a critical role in equipping health clinics with innovative Solar Suitcases—compact, reliable solar power systems designed to provide essential lighting and electricity during childbirth and critical care situations. Each year, a staggering number of women die during childbirth due to complications that could be mitigated by reliable power sources. According to reports, hundreds of thousands of women and nearly one million newborns do not survive their first day, many times because of preventable issues linked to inadequate electricity.

Ann Will remarked, "We Care Solar puts light and power in the hands of midwives and doctors at the moment it matters most. That's worth every one of these 200 miles. We are grateful to our clients SOLV Energy and Nextpower, and to our partner Lime Rock New Energy, for riding and raising with us. This is our biggest campaign yet." Her statement underlines the urgency and importance of having access to energy during critical healthcare moments, especially for expectant mothers.
