United Apartment Group Names New COO to Enhance Affordable Housing Division and Services

United Apartment Group Expands Leadership for Affordable Housing Growth

United Apartment Group (UAG), a prominent third-party multifamily property management firm and a subsidiary of Brixton Capital, has recently made a significant move in strengthening its focus on affordable housing. The company has appointed Sean Thompson as the Chief Operating Officer of its Affordable Housing division—a newly established position aimed at optimizing operations, improving services for clients, and driving strategic expansion within this vital sector.

A Commitment to Affordable Housing

Since its inception in 2000, UAG has been deeply invested in affordable housing, currently managing 101 communities that comprise approximately 13,000 homes. The introduction of a dedicated COO underscores the firm’s intent to enhance its operational capabilities and solidify its support for owners, investors, and inhabitants of affordable housing.

In his new role, Thompson will be entrusted with overseeing various critical areas, including regulatory adherence, operational management, and the exploration of growth avenues within UAG’s affordable housing portfolio. His primary goal will be to enhance the caliber of service provided to stakeholders while maintaining compliance with industry standards.

Experienced Leadership

Thompson brings over 30 years of extensive experience in real estate specifically within the affordable housing landscape. His professional background encompasses a wide range of competencies such as development, asset management, acquisitions, and financial structuring, informed by substantial insight into regulatory compliance and property management. Prior to joining UAG, he held the position of President of Asset Management at The Wentwood Companies, where he skillfully managed a complex array of affordable housing assets. In that capacity, Thompson worked towards aligning property operations with financial goals and ensuring compliance with investor expectations.

Throughout his career, Thompson has also collaborated extensively with various programs, including the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). His responsibilities have spanned across various facets of portfolio management, including refinancing strategies, managing distressed assets, and rehabilitating aging housing communities.

A Bright Future for Affordable Housing

“Affordable housing has been a cornerstone of UAG’s operations for over 25 years, and the establishment of this role is a testament to our commitment to its future,” stated Tim Settles, Founder and CEO of UAG. He emphasized, “Sean’s wealth of knowledge across all dimensions of affordable housing—from development and finance to compliance and daily operations—will be invaluable as we strive to optimize property performance and serve our existing clients better.”

UAG, founded in 1995 and based in San Antonio, Texas, manages around 35,000 apartment units across the nation. Its services extend beyond affordable housing to include conventional multifamily management, value-add opportunities, senior living developments, and more.

The appointment of Sean Thompson is a pivotal step in UAG’s journey to reinforce its competitive stance in the affordable housing sector, ensuring it remains a trusted partner for property owners and investors alike. With dedicated leadership focused on this critical area, UAG is well-positioned to foster growth, enhance operational performance, and provide exemplary service in the affordable housing landscape.
