CATL Unveils Six Major Innovations to Transform New Energy Mobility Experience
CATL Unveils Groundbreaking Innovations at Super Technology Day
On April 23, 2026, CATL held its Super Technology Day in Beijing, showcasing a series of revolutionary battery technologies aimed at redefining mobility in the context of new energy. This event highlighted six key innovations: the third-generation Shenxing super-fast charging battery, the third-generation Qilin battery, the condensed Qilin battery, the second-generation Freevoy super hybrid battery, the Naxtra sodium-ion battery, and an integrated solution for ultra-fast charging and battery swapping.
Key Innovations
1. Third-Generation Shenxing Super-Fast Charging Battery
The Shenxing battery is engineered to bridge the gap between ultra-fast charging capabilities and extended lifespan. With an impressive capability for 10C charge rates, it can transition from 10% to 80% charge in just 3 minutes and 44 seconds. Its design enables over 90% capacity retention after 1,000 complete charging cycles, making it among the most durable batteries in the industry.
2. Third-Generation Qilin Battery
Designed specifically for high-end electric vehicles (EVs), the Qilin battery boasts a remarkable energy density of 280 Wh/kg and can deliver an impressive range of up to 1,000 km. The power output reaches 3 MW, substantially enhancing the vehicle's performance while minimizing its weight. This weight reduction translates into energy efficiency, decreasing consumption by over 6% per 100 km.
3. Qilin Condensed Battery
For the first time, CATL has applied aerospace-quality technology to the Qilin condensed battery, achieving an unprecedented energy density of 350 Wh/kg and a volumetric density of 760 Wh/L. This innovation allows sedans to reach a range of 1,500 km, contributing significantly to sustainable mobility solutions.
4. Second-Generation Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery
The Freevoy battery extends the all-electric driving range to 600 km and incorporates materials from both LFP and NCM technologies. Offering flexibility for both daily commutes and long trips, it provides a balance of power and efficiency tailored for hybrid vehicles.
5. Naxtra Sodium-Ion Battery
This battery signifies CATL’s advancement from laboratory breakthroughs to mass production. Now on the brink of extensive scale-up, the sodium-ion battery addresses certain limitations of lithium-ion batteries, potentially enhancing energy storage for extreme temperature applications.
6. Integrated Ultra-Fast Charging and Battery Swapping Network
CATL's unified network combines ultra-fast charging and battery swapping capabilities. With plans for 4,000 integrated stations by the end of 2026, this system aims to facilitate energy replenishment across a vast geographical area, reinforcing the synergy between charging and swapping processes.
Future Outlook
During the conference, Wu Kai, Chief Scientist at CATL, emphasized the importance of a rigorous scientific approach to industrial innovation. He underscored that as Chinese technology seeks to establish a global presence, factors such as innovation quality and brand credibility are paramount.
With these innovations, CATL is not only responding to the evolving demands for energy security and social development but is also paving the way for sustainable mobility solutions in the global market. The objective includes fostering collaborations with automotive manufacturers and energy partners to build a comprehensive network for electric vehicles, from advanced battery technologies to an integrated energy replenishment ecosystem.
CATL aims to continue investing in R&D and scaling up manufacturing capabilities to ensure that comprehensive energy solutions are accessible and beneficial in all mobility scenarios. As a leader in the battery industry, it is poised to shape the future of transportation in the new energy era.
