The Enchanting Holiday Collection by JOHN SMEDLEY and HAND&LOCK Unveiled

Celebrating Tradition: The Holiday Collection of JOHN SMEDLEY and HAND&LOCK

As we approach the holiday season of 2025, the renowned British knitwear brand JOHN SMEDLEY, established in 1784, is set to unveil a special holiday selection. This collection is in collaboration with HAND&LOCK, the oldest embroidery studio in the UK, which dates back to 1767. The intertwining of these two prestigious brands not only highlights their history and craftsmanship but also places them firmly within the royal patronage, having both received the royal warrant.

The focus of this event will be on stunning accessories and goods, exclusively available at JOHN SMEDLEY's direct retail stores across Japan starting December 5, 2025. A notable highlight is a selection of brooches that prominently feature traditional Goldwork techniques. These brooches shine with a lightweight elegance and are a perfect complement to JOHN SMEDLEY's exquisite fine-gauge knits, embodying a jewel-like charm that resonates with the sophistication of the holiday season.

A Nod to Legacy

Throughout the campaign, a special collaborative brooch will pay homage to the rich histories of both brands. Inspired by the iconic motif of the “JAY BIRD,” crafted from archival designs housed in the JOHN SMEDLEY headquarters, this unique piece will be available in limited quantities at nationwide outlets, priced at 19,800 yen.

The brooch not only illustrates the beauty of fine embroidery but also serves as a piece of art, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. Additionally, customers will have the opportunity to witness live demonstrations of Goldwork embroidery at a unique event featuring Pom Zyquita, Japan's first designer invited to perform at HAND&LOCK. The live demonstrations will allow visitors to experience firsthand the intricate embroidery techniques that have shaped both brands over the centuries.

Embracing Craftsmanship

Goldwork is a historical embroidery technique that incorporates fine metallic threads sewn onto the fabric, first used in ancient civilizations as a symbol of wealth and power. Over time, it has evolved and adapted, finding its way to royal regalia and contemporary fashion. HAND&LOCK has remained at the forefront of this craft, combining classical methods with innovative designs that resonate with modern attire.

The upcoming live events will take place at various JOAN SMEDLEY locations:
  • - Osaka on December 13
  • - Kyoto on December 14
  • - Takanawa on December 20
  • - Ginza on December 21
Each event is scheduled from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and is free of charge, creating an open invitation for all to experience this blend of education and celebration of craftsmanship.
