GEDU Group to Become Largest Foreign Investor in Indian Education Sector
GEDU Group Makes Historic Move in Indian Education
GEDU Global Education, a leading British educational institution, has announced its plans to significantly enhance its presence in India by becoming the largest foreign direct investor in the country's education sector. At an event held in Mumbai, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer applauded this initiative, which involves an investment of an additional £200 million over the next three years. This move is expected to generate around 1,500 jobs in the region and strengthen educational ties between the UK and India.
Earlier, GEDU had already invested £25 million in establishing a campus in GIFT City, Gujarat, which serves as a base for offering infrastructural solutions and educational programs. Additionally, they have set up a global excellence center in Noida, employing around 600 people, and have made strides in rural education through their Lokmani higher education institution in Uttar Pradesh, led by GEDU's founder, Dr. Vishwajeet Rana.
Expanding Partnerships and Infrastructure
The latest announcements also outlined future expansions, including a partnership with the prestigious Queen Elizabeth's School in Barnet. Plans are underway to open a branch school in the National Capital Region by August next year, with another planned for a different city by 2028. The overarching goal is to develop a dedicated GEDU Global Education City in the National Capital Region, which will serve as a hub housing branches of various UK universities.
Dr. Vishwajeet Rana emphasized the transformative potential of education, stating, "Our investment will not only enhance the lives of young Indians but also boost both Indian and British economies and further fortify the education partnership between our nations." He acknowledged the rapid growth of the Indian economy and its youthful demographic, with 65% of the population under 35 years of age, generating unprecedented demand for quality education.
A Bright Future for Education
"As the Indian economy is poised to add an astounding $1 trillion to its GDP every 12 to 18 months in the coming decade, the requirement for world-class education at all levels is paramount," Dr. Rana noted. GEDU aims to meet this demand by facilitating and expediting the provision of British educational excellence in India. The favorable environment fostered by both the British and Indian governments has further encouraged GEDU’s ambitious plans.
In the words of Harjinder Kang, UK Deputy High Commissioner for West India, "The trade relations between the UK and India are valued at over £44 billion annually. Our Free Trade Agreement will remove barriers to business, making transactions cheaper and quicker, ultimately increasing exchanges by over £25 billion a year, thus unlocking further growth potential and job creation on both sides. This announcement illustrates the tangible benefits arising from the strengthening commercial ties between our two nations."
