2026 Miss International Japan Representative Michiru Yakuwata

On December 9, 2025, the 2026 Miss International Japan Selection Contest took place at the Grand Hall of the Beauty and Wellness Professional University in Tokyo. This prestigious event, hosted by the International Culture Association, featured 25 finalists representing various regions of Japan. In an impressive display of talent and poise, Michiru Yakuwata, representing Yamagata Prefecture, captured the title of Miss International Japan 2026.

Yakuwata will proudly bear the title of Japan's ambassador of beauty and peace as she competes in the 64th Miss International World Competition in 2026. The beauty pageant, established in 1960 in the United States, is renowned as one of the top three beauty contests globally, alongside Miss World and Miss Universe. The mission of Miss International transcends mere beauty; it aims to foster international exchange, friendship, and understanding among nations to ultimately promote world peace.

A Multifaceted Judging Process

The contest showcased a variety of assessments including kimono, swimsuit, and evening gown competitions, as well as speeches in both Japanese and English, illustrating the participants' depth and versatility. The kimono segment particularly stood out, with contestants elegantly adorned in vibrant traditional attire, representing their regions with pride. After rigorous evaluations, Michiru Yakuwata was selected from the finalists, thanks to her remarkable stage presence and sophistication.

In addition to Yakuwata's victory, awards for second and third place and four special prizes (Perfect Body Award, Beauty Skin Award, Happy Smile Award, and Web Genic Award) were also presented.

Yakuwata's Dedication to Culture and Community

Professionally, Michiru Yakuwata works at an M&A consulting firm, but she is also actively involved in cultural preservation efforts in Japan. She has continued her grandmother's legacy in the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement (Ikebana) and engages in various activities that promote Japan's rich cultural heritage. As she prepares for the upcoming world competition, Yakuwata is dedicated to refining both her outer beauty and her inner attributes through charitable events and community service.

During the event, the reigning Miss International Japan 2025, Ai Nozaki, who won the Miss Friendship title, reflected on the impact of beauty in connecting people and promoting joy. She encouraged Yakuwata, stating that the title of Japan's representative serves as a magical passport, urging her to embrace her true self as she embarks on this journey.

The competition concluded with a speech by Michiru Yakuwata, expressing gratitude for this honor. She acknowledged the support of her mother and grandmother, who have been instrumental in her journey, helping her with practice and cultural education. As she looks forward to the world stage, she feels a blend of excitement and nerves but emphasizes the importance of believing in herself and her mission.

"As a goodwill ambassador for beauty and peace, I aim to actively contribute to creating a society where every child has access to education, reflecting my personal experiences," Yakuwata shared confidently.
