OCIANA® Successfully Completes Operational Validation Testing for Port Optimization

OCIANA® Completes Key Validation Phase for Port Optimization

On November 3, 2026, OCIANA® announced a significant milestone regarding the Operational Validation Testing (OVT) of its integrated digital platform designed to optimize port call operations. The platform enables real-time collaboration among various stakeholders in the maritime industry, aimed at improving global supply chain efficiency while simultaneously reducing emissions and fuel consumption from ships.

The testing phase has successfully showcased the ability for ship operators and port authorities to work seamlessly within a unified system, facilitating real-time data sharing and coordination through a transparent and traceable process. Gone are the days of fragmented communication through emails, calls, and spreadsheets. This advancement builds a solid foundation for Just-in-Time (JIT) deliveries, contributing to more sustainable shipping practices.

"Through collaboration with the Core Technology Leadership Program of Canada’s Ocean Supercluster, OCIANA® has developed a platform for real-time information exchange among the numerous stakeholders at a port," stated Richard Kolacz, CEO of OCIANA®. He emphasized that this validation step is crucial in facilitating a unified platform for both shipping and port operators that will integrate seamlessly into their existing systems. The company plans to continue development alongside partners, ensuring that operational feedback drives improvements aimed at reducing both fuel consumption and emissions.

The project has brought together technology experts from OCIANA® and partners including Canada Steamship Lines (CSL), the Montreal Port Authority, the St. Lawrence Pilotage Authority, and Clear Seas to develop essential functions for scheduling. Leveraging proven operational capabilities, OCIANA® provides ports a central command hub for berth planning while consolidating booking requests, advance notifications, and changes in one location. This reform enables quicker and safer decision-making processes.

Configurable alerts and live dashboards will flag any discrepancies in scheduled arrivals and rerouted ship activities before they escalate into issues. As OCIANA® Ships undergo further development by incorporating feedback from shipowners, it offers a workflow for all planning measures, from initial requests to changes, submitted through standardized forms to minimize training efforts and errors. Real-time status tracking and automated notifications replace cumbersome manual tracking traditionally conducted via phone and email. Upcoming phases include a ship-centered interface for captains and further development of the JIT tool pending onboard tests.

For the entire port community, OVT has proven that various stakeholders can operate within the same system, sharing ship and request information in real-time. Designed to grow alongside the port community, the platform will continuously evolve through operational validation and stakeholder feedback, catering to the specific needs of each entity while integrating with their existing systems as they come on board.

Beyond role-specific advantages, OCIANA® delivers value that impacts the broader port community:
  • - A Single Source of Truth: All parties view the same data simultaneously, eliminating version control issues and reducing disputes over what has been communicated.
  • - Comprehensive Traceability: Every submission, confirmation, rejection, and modification is documented, supporting regulatory compliance and continuous process improvement.
  • - Reduced Coordination Efforts: Structured requests and automated notifications decrease the volume of manual calls and emails necessary to navigate a ship through the schedule.
