Pacific DRIVE-IN and the Pacific BEACH CLEAN PROJECT
On June 29, 2025, Pacific DRIVE-IN celebrated a decade of operations with its first ever 'Pacific BEACH CLEAN PROJECT' at Shichirigahama beach. This initiative aimed not only to beautify the beach but also to foster community engagement and environmental awareness.
Event Highlights
Approximately 50 participants gathered on a warm Sunday morning to take part in this meaningful event. Families joined in large numbers, highlighting the communal spirit of the activity. Many attendees mentioned that it was their first time participating in a beach clean-up, motivated by their connection to Pacific DRIVE-IN and the vibrant environment it offers. The atmosphere brimmed with positivity, as conversations sparked naturally among participants, enhancing social ties within the community.
Activities for All Ages
Despite the high temperatures, participants enjoyed the experience immensely, expressing their delight through various feedback. Volunteers were provided with cleaning supplies, including tongs, gloves, and garbage bags, alongside exclusive Pacific DRIVE-IN t-shirts. The clean-up was organized into teams of ten, all supervised by staff, ensuring safety and efficiency as they worked diligently to clear the shore of litter. After the clean-up, waste was sorted and collected, emphasizing the importance of responsible waste management.
In addition to environmental efforts, participants were treated to a delicious Hawaiian-style keema curry crafted with fresh Miura vegetables. This lunch, served from 11:30 to 12:30, was a highlight of the event, showcasing the local produce and encouraging a farm-to-table ethos.
Community and Collaboration
The event was conducted with support from local organizations, such as Kamakura City and the Kanagawa Coast Beautification Foundation, reinforcing the community's commitment to environmental preservation. Notable attendees included actor Shohei Miura, who volunteered his time to support the initiative.
Pacific DRIVE-IN, located just a short walk from Enoden Shichirigahama Station, continues to strive towards further engagements with the local community. Looking ahead, they plan to organize more events like the Pacific BEACH CLEAN PROJECT, aiming for the next one in October 2025. This approach not only enhances community spirit but also creates a platform for participants to interact, exchange ideas, and foster a shared sense of responsibility for the environment that surrounds them.
