Yoyogi Animation Academy Transitions to New Leadership
As Yoyogi Animation Academy approaches its significant 50th anniversary in 2028, it has announced a pivotal change in leadership. Kazuki Yao, a prominent figure in the anime industry, is set to assume the position of academy president starting April 1, 2026. This transition comes as part of the academy's commitment to adapt to the evolving landscape of the anime and entertainment sectors.
Founded in 1978 in Tokyo's Yoyogi district, the academy initially began as the Yoyogi Animation Class. Over the years, it has transformed into a specialized institution nurturing aspiring talents in the realms of animation and entertainment education. With over 120,000 graduates, the academy has played a vital role in shaping talented individuals in fields like anime, voice acting, and illustration.
In its dual role as an educational institution, Yoyogi Animation Academy has expanded into entertainment and facility management. The academy manages idol groups such as =LOVE, ≠ME, and ≒JOY, participates in the production committees for various anime and stage works, and operates the livehouse YOANI Live Station. These activities allow the academy to keep abreast of industry trends and incorporate the latest insights into its educational programs.
To further enhance these initiatives, the academy has decided to shift to a new organizational structure before its 50th anniversary. This structure aims to strengthen cooperation among its educational, entertainment, and facility management divisions. By doing so, the academy intends to respond promptly to changes in the anime and entertainment industry, thereby producing a greater number of skilled professionals to contribute to its development.
Upon his appointment, President Kazuki Yao expressed his surprise and excitement about taking on this role, noting that he has had a relationship with Yoyogi Animation Academy that spans nearly four decades. He stated, "I hope students will enjoy their lives without regrets. I aim to create an academy where everyone can freely and joyfully pursue what they feel passionate about. Let's do something interesting together!"
Kazuki Yao is celebrated for his diverse career as a voice actor, with notable roles in productions like
One Piece (Franky, Bon Clay, Django),
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (Judau Ashta), and
It’s Tough Being a Man (North). His experiences and knowledge will undoubtedly enrich the academy as it moves into a new era.
In addition to the educational program, Yoyogi Animation Academy is dedicated to staying forward-thinking in its approach to entertainment. It has launched numerous programs, including full-time courses, night classes, remote learning (entirely online), high school-level training, university-level programs, and weekly courses, allowing students to pursue their education in varied formats that suit their lifestyles.
With the impending transition and the new leadership, Yoyogi Animation Academy aims to create a synergistic connection between education and the entertainment industry, ensuring that it continues to play a significant role in shaping the future of anime and entertainment professionals. ### For an exclusive interview with President Kazuki Yao, click
