Empowering Senior Citizens Through Beauty
The recent frailty prevention event, "Fure! Fure! Frailty Prevention! Fest Yokohama," was organized by the city of Yokohama and showcased a significant contribution from the Care Beauty Research Institute, operated by Mirai Project in Shibuya, Tokyo. This event marked the beginning of an important collaboration between the Care Beauty Research Institute's Yokohama campus and Yokohama City through a signed partnership to promote frailty prevention initiatives.
A Day of Beauty and Connection
On the day of the event, students and alumni from the Yokohama campus were in charge of providing beauty experiences such as nail care, hand treatments, and makeup applications to the attendees. The enthusiasm was palpable, with many guests lining up, eager to engage with the beauty services offered. This initiative successfully encouraged social interaction and smiles among the seniors, creating a warm, lively atmosphere fueled by beauty.
The hands-on application of skills learned in class offered invaluable experience for the students. One student recounted, "It was a rare opportunity to interact with seniors, and although I was nervous, seeing their smiles gave me confidence." This practical experience not only showcased their training but also helped reinforce their commitment to the community.
Notable Alumni Inspiring Current Students
Current students also observed alumni actively participating in various local beauty services and community events, providing a sense of inspiration and motivation. These alumni have established a presence in the community by offering hair and nail care, further enriching the ties between beauty, care, and companionship.
Fostering Conversations Through Beauty
The booths for nail and hand treatments, as well as makeup applications, buzzed with conversations filled with laughter and joy. A striking sight was attendees praising each other's beauty with enthusiastic comments like, "You look beautiful!" Some individuals, who typically avoid wearing makeup, were joyfully surprised by their new looks and expressed feelings of delight, saying, "It's a little embarrassing, but I'm happy to look pretty!" Men also participated actively in hand treatments, demonstrating that beauty experiences transcend gender.
Strengthening Community Ties
In September 2025, the Care Beauty Research Institute Yokohama campus formalized their partnership with Yokohama City to enhance their frailty prevention initiatives. This agreement aims to foster cooperation and promote projects that contribute to a healthier, more engaged community for all its residents. The recent beauty fest was one of the first steps in this ongoing collaboration.
Looking ahead, both forces will continue to unite in their efforts to provide workshops, beauty experience sessions, and courses aimed at maintaining the physical and mental well-being of elderly citizens in the region. They are devoted to promoting beauty and care as integral parts of community health and engagement.
