Moldova Commemorates 25 Years of National Wine Day in a Grand Celebration
Moldova's National Wine Day: A 25-Year Tradition
In a celebration of both heritage and progress, the Republic of Moldova will proudly observe the 25th anniversary of National Wine Day from October 3 to 4, 2026, under the banner of "United by Wine." This event marks a significant milestone for Moldova, which has transformed itself into a notable player within the global wine industry.
A Unique National Celebration
Moldova stands out as one of the few nations to designate a national holiday dedicated to wine. National Wine Day has evolved over the years into a major cultural and tourism event, attracting thousands of visitors eager to immerse themselves in Moldova's rich viticultural offerings. Each year, this celebration showcases the evolving landscape of the country's wine sector on an international stage.
The upcoming anniversary will introduce an enriched concept, featuring increased participation from wineries nationwide and a variety of curated experiences designed to showcase the distinctive characteristics, authenticity, and quality of the wines produced in Moldova.
Celebrating a Growing Industry
"The evolution of Moldova's wine sector is remarkable, reflecting a blend of deep-rooted traditions and modern innovations," stated Ștefan Iamandi, Director of the National Office of Vine and Wine. The anniversary serves not just as a celebration of the country's wine-making history but also as a testament to its ambition to be recognized as a competitive global wine producer.
At the heart of this transformation lies the national brand, "Wine of Moldova. Unexpectedly Great." This initiative has bolstered the international profile of Moldovan wines and facilitated their access to global markets. Today, Moldova exports wine to over 70 countries, with Europe alone accounting for roughly 60% of these exports. The wine sector represents an important piece of the economy, contributing approximately 3% of the GDP while nearing 8% of total exports.
Global Engagement in 2026
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance its international presence, Moldova will participate in several key industry events in 2026, including JFEX Japan, the Daejeon Wine Expo in South Korea, Interwine China, and the WBWE in the Netherlands. These venues will allow Moldovan producers to highlight their wines' unique authenticity, exceptional terroir, and competitive quality to global audiences.
A World-Class Experience
Visitors from around the world are warmly invited to experience National Wine Day in Chișinău, where the city will be transformed into a festive hub of wine, culture, and warm hospitality.
