Refresco Workers Secure Strong Contract in Texas
In a significant demonstration of unity and strength, members of Teamsters Local 767 in Fort Worth, Texas, have ratified a new contract with Refresco, a prominent beverage company, with an overwhelming 93 percent approval rate. This remarkable outcome reflects the collective determination of the 135 Teamsters employed at the facility, encompassing various roles such as machine operations, forklift operations, batching technology, quality assurance, shipping, receiving, sanitation, and maintenance.
“This contract is a testament to the power and solidarity of Refresco's Teamsters,” stated Jeff Padellaro, the Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference. He praised the members for their hard-fought campaign, expressing admiration for their determination to secure a substantial Teamsters agreement.
Local 767 President, Dave Reeves, echoed Padellaro’s sentiments, emphasizing the courage displayed by the members in their fight against corporate greed. “I'm incredibly proud of our members for risking it all to achieve the record-breaking agreement they rightfully deserve,” Reeves remarked.
The newly ratified four-year contract is a milestone achievement, offering impressive wage increases and fairer overtime pay for weekend shifts. Importantly, it also enhances seniority protections while introducing provisions aimed at fostering a better work-life balance for the workers. This reflects a growing acknowledgment of the need for a more equitable and supportive work environment in today's demanding labor market.
Linda Mitchell, a steward and member of Local 767, shared her perspective on the negotiations, stating, “We remained united throughout this process, and Dave Reeves and his team did an outstanding job advocating for us at the bargaining table. We are immensely proud of both the contract we have secured and our identity as Teamsters.”
Teamsters Local 767 operates to meet the labor needs of employees across ten different companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This momentous agreement will likely empower other labor unions and workers facing similar challenges, setting a precedent for solidarity and achievement.
