The Kailas FUGA Gongga 100: Elevating Trail Running in China

Kailas FUGA Gongga 100: A New Era of Trail Racing in China

The Kailas FUGA Gongga 100, held on September 28, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the adventure racing landscape of China. This race, a collaboration between the renowned trail running brand Kailas FUGA and Letour Sports, took place in the breathtaking and remote Hailuogou Glacier, located at the foot of Mt. Gongga in Sichuan Province. After seven years of meticulous preparation and collaboration with local authorities, this event opened doors to an area previously inaccessible to the public during races.

Unique Experience for Runners

Kailas FUGA aims to position this race as a beacon for international trail runners, aspiring to make it one of the most prestigious events worldwide. As Baggio Zhong, the founder of Kailas and its Product Director, expressed, “We want the race to become more and more international. In the future, I want it to be among the world's most important races.” The participants are drawn to Mt. Gongga not only for its beauty but also for the distinct challenges it presents, with its varying altitudes and terrains.

Runners could choose from three courses: a 100km option that climbs to a staggering altitude of 4100 meters, a 55km route, and a more approachable 30km trail starting at 1600 meters. This diversity ensures that the event caters to both novice and veteran runners. The rugged terrain—comprising ice, rocks, and mud—adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement to this extreme glacier challenge.

A Race with Global Impact

In its inaugural outing, the Kailas FUGA Gongga 100 attracted 1,000 runners from seven different countries, signaling the race's burgeoning popularity on an international scale. Notably, American runner Bryon Powell, who previously triumphed at Ultra Gobi 800, described the experience as “more than just a race.” He emphasized the immersive nature of the event, highlighting the chance to explore the culture, cuisine, and stunning landscapes of Western China.

The race not only pulls the focus on extreme running but also spotlights the potential for economic growth by generating tourism for remote communities. This aligns with Kailas FUGA's commitment to contribute positively to the local economy while promoting sports and adventure.

Technical Innovations for Challenging Terrains

In anticipation of the race's extreme conditions, Kailas FUGA launched a new shoe model, DU2 GTX, tailored for difficult terrains. This innovative footwear ensures that participants are well-equipped to tackle the harsh elements of the race, providing essential support and comfort.

As the Kailas FUGA Gongga 100 sets a precedent for future sporting events in China, it is clear that trail running in the region is entering a new phase. With its stunning landscapes, rigorous courses, and an increasingly international atmosphere, the race stands as a testament to the growing allure of adventure sports in China. The Kailas FUGA Gongga 100 not only challenges its participants physically but also serves as a platform for cultural exchange and tourism, paving the way for future events in this beautiful and rugged country.
