Gestala, the pioneering company in ultrasound-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), set sail on its ambitious journey on January 1, 2026. Not even half a year later, the company successfully completed two financing rounds, amassing approximately RMB 570 million (or about US$84 million). This robust financing underscores a rising interest among investors in alternative approaches to BCIs, particularly in minimizing the invasiveness typically associated with traditional implantable electrode systems.

Rapid Development and Breakthrough Innovations

Founded by trailblazers Phoenix Peng and Tianqiao Chen, who is known for his role in Shanda Group and the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute, Gestala has demonstrated an impressive pace of growth. Peng, with a rich background, including a doctorate from Fudan University focused on brain-inspired intelligence, is currently leading his sixth startup. The company's momentum has been remarkable: it completed a RMB 150 million angel round just three months post-launch and attracted top-tier talent, including leaders from Neuralink and Nano Retina, during the following months.

The company marked a significant milestone in June by commencing operations at its global headquarters in Chengdu and the first phase of its ultrasound BCI superfactory. By July, Gestala set up another site in Shanghai and closed a substantial RMB 420 million Angel+ funding round, attracting contributions from notable investors like HSG, Lens Technology, and Sinovation Ventures.
