Georgia-Pacific Expands Premium Tissue Production to Meet Demand
Georgia-Pacific Expands Production Capacity of Premium Tissue
Georgia-Pacific, a leader in the paper products industry, has announced ambitious plans to expand its production capacity for premium bath tissue and paper towels. This decision comes as a response to the increasing demand from both customers and consumers for high-quality paper products. The company has initiated the final engineering and planning stages for new structured paper machines as well as the necessary converting equipment, aiming to shorten project timelines while optimizing capital expenditure by utilizing existing facility infrastructure.
The expansion effort indicates a significant commitment to enhancing the production capabilities of Georgia-Pacific's renowned brands, which include Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle®. As stated by Vivek Joshi, the executive vice president of the Consumer Products Group, this initiative reflects Georgia-Pacific's ongoing confidence in the robust growth prospects of premium paper products. The investment strategy looks to not only support the long-term growth of their branded products but also to fortify their partnerships with private-label brands.
The expansion plans involve evaluating facilities located in both central and western regions of the United States. Until now, specific site selections remain under wraps but will be announced shortly. Following the completion of the engineering phase and the approval by the board of management, the company plans to commence construction. Georgia-Pacific anticipates that the first new machine could begin operations by late 2028, with a second machine to follow shortly after.
In recent years, Georgia-Pacific has continuously invested in its manufacturing network. Notable expansions include new paper machines installed in various facilities across the country, including Naheola, Alabama (2018), Palatka, Florida (2020), and Green Bay, Wisconsin (2024). The company is also set to introduce new production capabilities in Wauna, Oregon by 2026.
The overall aim of these expansions and investments is to create sustainable growth aligned with customer demands. During a recent company announcement, Joshi emphasized, "These efforts underscore our longstanding dedication to investing in our manufacturing infrastructure and expanding our market presence, ensuring we can create lasting value for our customers."
Georgia-Pacific operates over 150 facilities and employs around 30,000 people directly while indirectly creating more than 80,000 jobs. As one of the largest manufacturers in the bath tissue and paper towel sector, the company's manufacturing prowess not only enhances operational efficiency but also strengthens its position in the paper products industry.
As the company adapts to meet modern consumer preferences and demands for quality paper products, it is clear that Georgia-Pacific is poised for continued growth. With a robust plan that dovetails capital investment and consumer needs, the company is making strides toward reinforcing its market leadership and commitment to both retail and private label tissue products.
