Expanding Disaster Prevention Towns Across Japan by 2030

Daiko Kentaku Co., Ltd., headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, is embarking on an ambitious plan to establish a network of 'Disaster Prevention Towns' in collaboration with its four group companies. The aim is to bolster disaster response capabilities and create a network that supports local communities throughout Japan, with a target of reaching 10 cities by the year 2030.

In recent years, Japan has faced significant challenges regarding the capacity of public evacuation shelters during large-scale disasters. Recognizing this societal concern, Daiko Kentaku has taken the initiative to utilize its extensive management properties and disaster response bases across the country. The goal is to support not only its tenants but also local residents, positioning itself as a crucial component of the region's disaster infrastructure through a blend of both soft and hard support systems.

Currently, the concept of the Disaster Prevention Town is operational in three regions: Himeji City in Hyogo Prefecture, Wakayama City in Wakayama Prefecture, and Yokkaichi City in Mie Prefecture. As part of its expansion, Daiko Kentaku plans to launch its next Disaster Prevention Town in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, by 2026.

Currently, Daiko Kentaku has 213 disaster support bases nationwide, with plans to increase this number to approximately 250 by 2030, marking about a 20% growth. This initiative encompasses various aspects:

  • - Resource Stockpiling andEmergency Assistance: Each base is responsible for local support and stockpiling resources. Daiko Kentaku's initiatives include stocking essential supplies for emergencies and facilitating community aid during disasters.

  • - Early Recovery Support: Daiko Kentaku Partners is focused on stocking recovery materials and providing prompt recovery assistance to affected regions.

  • - Emergency Power Supply: Utilizing resources from Gas Pal, the organization is poised to offer free emergency electricity during disasters.

  • - Return Support for Residents: Care Partner facilities will help facilitate a safe return for those impacted, offering support in various ways, including essential services.

By integrating the expertise of its affiliates, Daiko Kentaku plans to provide comprehensive support that extends beyond its tenants to encompass broader community needs. The commitment to advancing both soft and hard aspects of disaster prevention infrastructure will play a pivotal role in contributing to local rapid recovery in the face of disasters.

Furthermore, Daiko Kentaku's strategic plan aims to create a sustainable network that not only aids recovery but also emphasizes resilience in communities. This initiative represents a significant step forward in Japan’s ongoing effort to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities across the nation.
