JERA Americas Contributes to Community Wellbeing with Houston Nonprofits

JERA Americas' Commitment to Community

On April 16, 2026, JERA Americas held its annual volunteer event titled Powered by Purpose, bringing together employees to lend their hands across Houston. This initiative reflects the company's ongoing dedication to corporate responsibility and community engagement. Volunteers participated in diverse projects that catered to local needs, from animals in shelters to educational programs aiding children.

The event served as a platform to unite staff around a common goal while offering meaningful support to six nonprofit organizations in the area. Employees plunged into various activities, such as assembling therapeutic play kits, sorting professional clothing donations, and even preparing educational materials for local libraries. The flexibility of these volunteer opportunities enabled staff members to choose where their impact would be most significant.

Nonprofit Collaborations

This year’s Powered by Purpose event saw cooperation with the following nonprofit partners:

1. Children's Museum Houston: Employees provided assistance to the floor staff by assembling materials and preparing conference areas for upcoming events.
2. Dress for Success Houston: Volunteers organized clothing donations aimed at empowering women to achieve economic independence.
3. Houston Public Library: Participants helped to box and sort materials, preparing incentives and books essential for the upcoming Summer Reading Program.
4. Houston Humane Society: Employees took part in pet care by walking dogs, socializing with cats, and supporting the pet pantry.
5. Project Sunshine: Volunteers assembled therapeutic activity kits for children facing medical challenges.
6. United Services Organizations (USO): The staff created care packages filled with snacks, toiletries, and essentials for service members of the U.S. military, alongside organizing a snack donation drive in support of this organization.

Cindy Garcia, Chief Human Resources Officer at JERA Americas, stated, "By partnering with local nonprofit organizations, we're able to make a meaningful impact in our communities while bringing our teams together around a shared purpose." Such initiatives not only help local communities but also enhance the bond among employees, enriching the organizational culture.

Continuing Commitment to Volunteering

JERA Americas recognizes the importance of volunteerism as part of its corporate DNA. To promote this culture, the company allocates two paid days off annually for employees to volunteer with organizations of their choosing. The initiative demonstrates how JERA invests in the communities it serves and how it fosters a collaborative environment for its employees.

The Powered by Purpose event is just one of many planned for 2026, with another session expected in the fall. These efforts underline JERA's commitment to not only providing stable and sustainable energy to the U.S. but also ensuring the wellbeing of the communities in which they operate.
