MINAMIISE MATSURI event, set to take place on
January 31, 2026. This exciting event is designed to bring the essence of
Minamiise Town in Mie Prefecture right to the bustling district of Shinjuku, Tokyo.
With a rich program combining local flavors, engaging talks, and live performances, the festival aims to introduce attendees to the unique allure of Minamiise Town. The event will feature live shows and interactive experiences that stimulate all five senses. Highlights include a
tuna cutting demonstration, opportunities to fill your bags with local
Mikan (mandarins), and a special appearance by the beloved mascot
Taimee.

- - 4:00 PM: Opening remarks from the Mayor of Minamiise Town
- - 4:05 PM - 4:50 PM: Talk show featuring photographer Fugamaru-chan, who captures the spirit of Mie Prefecture, along with a session from Kenichi Okumura, the 4th generation owner of Yamakak Shoten, a local producer of traditional bonito flakes.
- - 4:50 PM - 5:00 PM: Photo session with Taimee, the town's mascot
- - 5:45 PM - 6:45 PM: Mikan bag-filling event, allowing participants to gather as many mandarins as they can
- - 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM: Tuna cutting show, with the first 100 guests receiving free samples of freshly cut tuna to enjoy at Shinjuku Kabuki Hall.
In addition to the main events, attendees can visit a
POP UP SHOP from
4:00 PM to 8:30 PM on the 2nd floor, featuring Minamiise's regional specialties including Taimee-themed merchandise and Yamakak Shoten's renowned
bonito flakes and smoked bonito products.
Special Promotions
To celebrate the upcoming festival, the 2nd-floor Shinjuku Kabuki Hall will offer exclusive sales of Minamiise's specialties, including
bonito sashimi and
Appapa shell, from
January 24 to January 31, 2026. This promotion will give festival-goers a taste of Minamiise's culinary delights before and during the event.
