HUAWEI WATCH D3 Introduced at ISH-ECS 2026 with Advanced Blood Pressure Monitoring Features
The 31st International Society of Hypertension (ISH) Scientific Meeting and the 17th Annual Conference of the Emirates Cardiology Society (ISH-ECS 2026) was recently held in Dubai from October 22 to 25, 2026. This significant international event focused on hypertension, assembling leading organizations and experts from around the globe to discuss the latest research and advancements in the prevention and treatment of high blood pressure.
During the conference, HUAWEI showcased its latest wearable device, the HUAWEI WATCH D3. Experts from various internationally recognized institutions presented their findings on the use of HUAWEI's wearable blood pressure monitoring technology, emphasizing its potential in hypertension management. Attendees had the chance to experience firsthand the medical-grade blood pressure measurement capabilities of the HUAWEI WATCH D3 in various scenarios, witnessing how advanced wearable technology can make blood pressure monitoring more practical and accessible in everyday life.
In a collaborative effort to foster research advancements in this area, HUAWEI announced the establishment of the Wearable Blood Pressure Technology Innovation Fund in partnership with ISH. This fund focuses on two vital areas: wearable blood pressure measurement and wearable blood pressure management. The initiative aims to promote innovation, explore new applications of wearable technology, and support progress in hypertension prevention and management globally. Researchers whose projects were selected from over 80 submissions presented their work at the conference, which included representatives from Colombo University in Sri Lanka, the University of Edinburgh in the UK, Peking University People's Hospital in China, and the University of Cambridge in the UK. The fund will support further research into blood pressure management using HUAWEI WATCH D series devices.
As wearable health technologies continue to evolve, devices with inflatable cuffs and oscillometric measurement technology are gaining recognition within the international medical community. Several international guidelines and consensus statements, including the European Society of Hypertension's Consensus Statement on Wearable Watch-Type Oscillometric Blood Pressure Measurement Devices, the 2026 ISH Global Hypertension Guidelines, and the HOPE Asia Network Hypertension Guidelines, have addressed these devices. These publications highlight the potential role of wrist-worn oscillometric devices in self-monitoring blood pressure. Experts attending the conference discussed the significance of these developments and their implications for future clinical applications. In China, the Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Hypertension (2024 Edition) have included wrist-worn oscillometric blood pressure measurement devices for the first time. Moreover, recommendations for the use of smart wearable devices in ambulatory blood pressure monitoring have been established according to international standards, showcasing a growing acceptance of the role of wearable technologies in hypertension management.
During the sessions focusing on HUAWEI's wearable technology, experts from the company introduced the technologies and applications that form the backbone of its comprehensive health management approach. International hypertension specialists shared their insights on the HUAWEI WATCH D3, evaluating its potential to make blood pressure monitoring more accessible. Professor Wang Jiguang, President of the Chinese Hypertension Society, noted that innovations like the Minimal Discomfort ABPM and environmental monitoring reminders provided by the HUAWEI WATCH D3 could inspire new directions for automating blood pressure management through wearable devices, seamlessly integrating them into daily life.
Professor George Stergiou, President of the International Society of Hypertension, described the HUAWEI WATCH D3 as an innovative and reliable wearable device that provides insights into blood pressure profiles and trends, underscoring the need for more research regarding the integration of these clinically approved wrist-type devices into medical practice.
Additionally, Professor Maryam Al Saeed from Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences commented on the collaboration between Dubai Health and HUAWEI, which aims to evaluate non-invasive wearable technologies for the earlier detection of diabetes risk. This clinical research initiative seeks to leverage real-world health data to develop personalized prevention strategies, facilitating proactive healthcare services and improving long-term health outcomes across diverse populations.
The HUAWEI WATCH D3 combines advanced monitoring features with everyday usability. Gong Yuansong, Vice President of HUAWEI's Smart Wearable Devices and Sports Health Product Group, highlighted the significant shift in personal health approaches during his opening remarks at the conference, noting that individuals are moving beyond traditional treatment methods towards proactive monitoring and early prevention strategies. He emphasized that blood pressure management continues to evolve, integrating daily health routines that extend beyond individual measurements and hospital visits.
"Smart wearable devices equipped with comprehensive health analysis features like health summaries, trend tracking, and readiness scores have the potential to enhance users' understanding of their health status and encourage proactive steps towards improvement," he added.
As the third generation of HUAWEI's wrist-worn blood pressure measurement devices, the HUAWEI WATCH D3 stands out within HUAWEI's health-centric wearable device portfolio. It combines professional measurement capabilities with a lightweight design and various features that support daily blood pressure management.
The device is equipped with oscillometric measurement technology featuring ultra-narrow air cuffs and introduces a new mode for measuring blood pressure before and after exercise. This feature helps users track changes in blood pressure related to physical activity, offering valuable information and recommendations to support a safer and more informed exercise experience. It is noteworthy that this mode is the first in the industry to receive CE marking under the Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) and to be registered as a Class II medical device in China.
Additionally, HUAWEI plans to expand the Minimal Discomfort ABPM study, conducted in collaboration with Ruijin Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, to countries such as Saudi Arabia and Malaysia through partnerships with local research institutions. This study explores a hybrid measurement approach that combines photoplethysmography (PPG) monitoring conducted throughout the day with air cuff-based precise oscillometric measurements for calibration. The methodology aims to reduce the number of necessary cuff measurements from 27 to 7, thus minimizing disruptions during ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
This monitoring technique offers users a detailed overview of blood pressure patterns, including average daytime and nighttime readings over a 24-hour period, accompanied by graphs indicating how blood pressure varies throughout the day. The insights gained from this data can greatly assist users in understanding their blood pressure trends while supporting long-term treatment processes.
The ISH-ECS 2026 highlighted the increasing potential of wearable technologies to transform blood pressure management, affirming HUAWEI's aim to integrate advanced health monitoring features into everyday life through innovations like the HUAWEI WATCH D3, empowering individuals to take a more proactive role in managing their health.
