Meiji's Innovative Cocoa Farming Game
As we celebrate nearly two decades of efforts in enhancing the sustainability of cocoa bean production, Meiji Co., Ltd., based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, has launched its very first育成ゲームアプリ (育成 refers to nurturing or raising). The new smartphone application,
HonoBono Cocoa Farming Game: Spend Time with Theo Theo in a Healing Cocoa Farm, promises an engaging experience that bridges the gap between gameplay and learning about cocoa.
A Closer Look at the Game
The game revolves around
Theo Theo, the charming cocoa fairy. Throughout the game, players will engage in various tasks that contribute to Theo Theo's growth. Everyday missions include reading stories about cocoa, registering chocolate products in the
Chocolate Record, and spinning the
Today's Chocolate Gacha. As participants nurture Theo Theo, he will progress through different phases of growth until he reaches adulthood, at which point cocoa pods will begin to mature. Players can tap on these pods to harvest, translating their efforts into
C Coins, a necessity for upgrading facilities within the game.
However, neglecting Theo Theo's care could lead to dire consequences. His condition can worsen from
Normal to
Weak and eventually to
Sick. If left unattended, he will eventually die, necessitating the planting of a new Theo Theo.
Collecting and Supporting Characters
The game also features several lively
supporters that assist players on their cocoa farming journey. Moreover, players can collect various outfits for Theo Theo called
Hakama. There are 38 designs available, from seasonal patterns to motifs inspired by Meiji products, allowing users to express creativity and enhance motivation.
The Sound of Cocoa
In conjunction with the game's launch, Meiji has partnered with singer-songwriter Makiko Ohmuro, who provided the promotional theme titled
Cocoa de Salsa. The catchy tune encapsulates the essence of cocoa through its origins and benefits, promoting a deeper understanding of cocoa in a fun and engaging way. You can watch the promotional video on their official YouTube channel.
Educational Initiatives Around Cocoa
Meiji has been committed to sustainable cocoa farming since 2006 through its
Meiji Cocoa Support initiative. With the aim of enhancing the sustainability of cocoa production, the company directly engages with farmers and collaborates with various partners to improve the quality of cocoa beans and support cocoa farmers' livelihoods. Through this new app, Meiji hopes to raise awareness about these efforts and get more people excited about cocoa.
