Seminar Overview: Navigating PFI Project Challenges
On June 29, 2026, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host an essential seminar for new project managers, aimed at dissecting common issues encountered in PFI (Private Finance Initiative) projects. Led by attorney Yoshiyuki Suzuki of Suzuki Law Office, this seminar promises a comprehensive analysis of past cases and practical strategies for effective responses.
Target Audience
This seminar is specifically designed for:
- - Government agencies managing PFI/PPP projects.
- - Project management departments of infrastructure, construction, and operations firms.
- - Legal and contract departments involved in PFI initiatives.
- - Financial institutions and investment sectors engaged in concession businesses.
Importance of the Seminar
Having passed 25 years since the enactment of the PFI Act in 1999, the number of PFI and concession projects has steadily increased, with over 1,154 projects currently operational. However, alongside this growth, a rising number of disputes and challenges have emerged, sometimes escalating to contract terminations and litigation.
