Numerica and SELCO Community Credit Union Unite in Major Merger of Equals to Enhance Services
Numerica Credit Union and SELCO Community Credit Union Announce Merger
On October 28, 2026, SELCO Community Credit Union and Numerica Credit Union revealed their plans to merge in a groundbreaking partnership aimed at better serving their members. With combined assets nearing $8 billion and over 325,000 members, this merger is set to position them as the second-largest credit union in Oregon.
The decision to unite two financially robust institutions comes from a desire to expand offerings and enhance member services. According to Carla Cicero, President and CEO of Numerica, the merger marks an "exciting new chapter" for both organizations. "For nearly 90 years, Numerica has been committed to enhancing lives and building communities. SELCO shares this mission, making this partnership a natural fit," she remarked.
One of the most significant aspects of the merger is the operational strategy regarding branch locations. While the two credit unions primarily serve different geographical regions and no immediate branch consolidations are planned, the merger will allow them to leverage their strengths. The headquarters will remain in Springfield, Oregon, under SELCO’s Oregon charter, while Numerica's Spokane Valley location will serve as a secondary headquarters and the office for the CEO.
The merger has received unanimous approval from the boards of directors of both credit unions but is still awaiting regulatory green lights and a vote from Numerica's members. Legal integration of the two organizations is projected to be completed by early 2028, with interim operations continuing separately until then.
Remarkably, the combined organization plans to maintain its distinct identities while forging a new shared identity that reflects their rich histories and collective vision for community development. This will also pave the way for increased community contributions and financial education initiatives, with SELCO and Numerica previously having invested roughly $7 million in community sponsorships and donations over the last three years.
Bob Newcomb, President and CEO of SELCO, expressed his enthusiasm about the merger's potential. He noted that by amalgamating resources, they could significantly increase investments in technology, enhance account security, and ultimately ensure the long-term financial health of the new entity.
Cicero highlighted the merger's aim to create more opportunities for members, employees, and the wider communities they serve. "We couldn’t be more excited about what we’ll build together for our members, employees, and the communities we all call home," she stated with optimism.
More than just numbers, the merger between Numerica and SELCO represents a commitment to community planning, resource sharing, and the collective goal of elevating financial well-being throughout Oregon and Washington. The future looks promising as these two well-respected credit unions join forces to foster an environment where their members can thrive.
