Spring Study Tour in the Philippines: Applications Now Open!

Are you ready to embark on a life-changing journey this spring? The accredited NPO, Free The Children Japan, based in Setagaya, Tokyo, is inviting participants for its one-week study tour to the Philippines. Scheduled to depart on March 25, 2026, this immersive experience is tailored for junior high school students and above, offering a unique opportunity to learn about global issues and community service.

Learn and Engage

For over 25 years, Free The Children has been dedicated to supporting communities in the Philippines. This tour will include exciting interactions with local children, home stays in the Aeta indigenous village, and visits to slum communities and care facilities for children rescued from exploitation. Participants will have a chance to engage with local children and learn about the complexities behind global poverty and the essence of international cooperation.

Early Bird Discounts

Sign up before January 9, 2026, to receive a 5,000 yen discount on the total fee of 298,000 yen. Additionally, special discounts are available for siblings from the same address. This effort not only helps cover the cost of the tour but also provides an avenue to contribute to the communities visited.

What to Expect

The tour will run for six nights and seven days, covering a lot of ground:
  • - Day 1: Departure from Narita to Manila, arriving in Olongapo City.
  • - Days 2-4: Engage in community visits, homestays with indigenous families, and interactions with children who have faced severe hardships. You'll learn about the realities of life in Manila’s slums and spend time in a facility that helps children escape the sex industry and abuse.
  • - Day 5: A tour of historical sites in Manila, learning about Filipino culture and history.
  • - Day 6: Continue community interactions and engagement with local families.
  • - Day 7: Return to Narita.

Online Orientation Sessions

To help participants prepare, we will host two online orientation meetings on November 9, 2025, and December 15, 2025. These sessions are essential for prospective participants as they will provide insight into the program's objectives and details. The orientation is free of charge and will take place via Zoom.

Scholarships Available

In a remarkable initiative, Free The Children Japan is pleased to announce a scholarship program for high school-aged youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Funded through donations, this scholarship will cover the cost of participation, including travel and accommodation expenses. Eligible candidates must meet certain criteria, including financial hardship, and applications are open from November 4 to November 17, 2025.
