Cool Carriers Introduces Next-Generation Snow-Class Reefer Fleet
Cool Carriers, recognized as the foremost operator of specialized reefer vessels worldwide, recently expanded its fleet with the introduction of a new generation of Snow-Class vessels. On March 4, 2026, the company took delivery of its first vessel, named Snow Flower, as part of a series that includes seven new ships manufactured by Kitanihon Shipbuilding in Japan.
Enhanced Capacity and Efficiency
Each vessel in this innovative fleet is meticulously designed to carry up to
5,000 high-cube pallets of perishable goods, alongside 168 dedicated reefer containers. With a service speed of 18 knots, these vessels significantly enhance the company’s operational efficiency. Two of the new vessels boast remarkable storage capacities exceeding
630,000 cubic feet, while the remaining five offer slightly larger capacities of
660,000 cubic feet. This strategic upgrade not only prepares Cool Carriers to meet the growing demand but also positions it favorably within the competitive reefer segment.
Environmentally Responsible Design
A standout feature of the new fleet is its modern hull and propulsion designs, which incorporate cutting-edge, energy-efficient engines. These innovations are crucial in meeting
stringent IMO and EU environmental regulations expected to come into play until 2030 and beyond. This aligns with Cool Carriers’ commitment to sustainability and responsible shipping practices.
The Snow-Class vessels begin delivery from March 2026, with the complete series anticipated to launch through to 2028. Furthermore, all vessels share homogeneous specifications and are inspired by the company’s original Snow-class vessels, enhancing brand continuity and recognition.
Ensuring a Resilient Food Supply Chain
Cool Carriers plays an instrumental role in global food supply chains, managing critical trade routes worldwide—from exporting
kiwifruit from New Zealand to Europe, to transporting
bananas from Ecuador and
meat from South America. As the demand for fresh produce soars globally, these advanced vessels will bolster the supply chain's stability, ensuring perishable goods can be transported efficiently. Cool Carriers' strategic expansion focuses on enhancing shipping reliability, which is essential for sustaining food availability across regions.
COO Glenn Selling remarked,
“Cool Carriers is proud to introduce the Snow Class. With a 2.5-meter deck height, these vessels represent a major step forward for the specialized reefer industry. Exporters will no longer need to choose between standard and high-cube pallets—the new vessels are designed entirely for high-cube cargo, perfectly matching the internal height of modern reefer containers.”
Acknowledging Cool Carriers' Legacy
Beyond its innovative future, Cool Carriers prides itself on a rich history, operating a fleet of over 50 vessels, many designed for high container capacity and equipped with sophisticated cranes for self-sustained handling. The emphasis of the company is on the rapid, direct transportation of perishable commodities, securing their esteemed positioning in the industry.
To conclude, the introduction of the new Snow-Class fleet marks a pivotal moment for Cool Carriers, reflecting its commitment to modernization and sustainability while actively supporting global food supply chains. As they await further deliveries, the anticipation surrounding these vessels’ performance remains high.
