EPS Learning’s SPIRE Receives Virginia Literacy Endorsement
EPS Learning, a prominent provider of PreK-12 literacy solutions, has recently announced an exciting endorsement for its SPIRE program. The Virginia Literacy Partnership (VLP) has officially reviewed and recommended SPIRE for use in grades 6-8. This comes as a significant development as Virginia schools look for robust literacy solutions to enhance student reading skills across the state.
The VLP's recommendation will be publicly listed in an official approved program catalog set for release in October 2025. This initiative aligns with the Virginia Literacy Act, enacted to improve literacy resources and education for students throughout the state. Since its introduction in 2022, the Act has mandated funding, resources, and technical support for school divisions, making it easier for educators to implement effective literacy interventions.
Previously, SPIRE had already made its mark in Virginia's K-5 classrooms and is currently being utilized by 46 elementary divisions. Its success at the elementary level paved the way for its broader application at the middle school level. This recent approval signifies a new chapter in addressing the literacy needs of struggling readers in grades 6-8.
SPIRE is developed based on the science of reading and focuses on direct, teacher-led instruction, ensuring that every student receives support tailored to their learning journey. This approach is essential for fostering literacy skills among students who may need extra guidance.
Jameka Jones, an Instructional Coach from Fairfax County Public Schools, shared her positive experiences with the SPIRE 4th Edition. She states, "We have used SPIRE in grades 1-6 this year and love it! The ease of materials, predictability of routines, and ample opportunity for practice has greatly contributed to the progress we are seeing with our students. The embedded assessments and multiple reinforcing lessons enable us to be responsive to our students’ needs."
In addition to SPIRE, the Virginia Literacy Partnership has also endorsed several of EPS Learning’s other educational resources, such as Megawords, Reading Accelerator, SPIRE Next, and Wordly Wise 3000. To find further details regarding these approved programs, individuals can visit
