Launching #WhiteCard 2025: A Global Movement for Peace Through Sports
Peace and Sport Invites the World to Join #WhiteCard 2025
On April 4, 2025, Peace and Sport officially launched the #WhiteCard 2025 campaign in Monaco in celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. This global initiative aims to highlight how sports can serve as a powerful tool for promoting peace and social inclusion, particularly focusing on the staggering 460 million children living in conflict zones.
The Reality for Children in Conflict Zones
According to UNICEF, one in six children around the world finds themselves living in a conflict-affected area. These children often face the heartbreaking reality of losing access to education, safe play areas, and the risk of social exclusion. The #WhiteCard 2025 campaign seeks to advocate for increased investment in sports—a crucial tool recognized by the United Nations for reconciliation efforts, conflict prevention, and post-conflict reconstruction.
Education for Peace
Central to this initiative is the concept of peace education. Sports are powerful educational instruments, capable of teaching children essential values such as respect, teamwork, and resilience. By integrating peace-promoting sports programs within educational systems, particularly in conflict-impacted regions, children can regain access to structured learning environments that facilitate both academic and personal growth.
Moreover, sports play a significant role during the post-conflict reconstruction phase, aiding the reintegration of displaced youth, rebuilding communities, and promoting social cohesion. Through the #WhiteCard 2025 campaign, Peace and Sport implores policymakers and institutions to prioritize investments in peace-oriented sports programs to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a peaceful society.
Support from Recognized Champions
The #WhiteCard 2025 campaign is bolstered by the support of prominent sport figures known as Champions for Peace. This esteemed group includes Didier Drogba, Vice President of Peace and Sport, along with athletes such as Grace Geyoro (France, Football), Cheick Cissé (Ivory Coast, Taekwondo), Zakia Khudadadi (Para-Taekwondo), Siya Kolisi (South Africa, Rugby), Clarisse Agbegnenou (France, Judo), and Egan Bernal (Colombia, Cycling). Each of these champions is dedicated to raising public awareness about the impactful role of sports in fostering more peaceful societies.

The campaign's official launch took place in Monaco, graced by the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, a steadfast advocate for the use of sports as a vehicle for peace and a Patron of Peace and Sport. Peace and Sport extends an invitation to the global community to unite in this movement by sharing their #WhiteCard and the accompanying message on social media.
