On World Environment Day, LILYSILK, the premier silk brand globally, presented its 2024 Impact Report, marking the third successive year of its sustainability achievements. The report underscores LILYSILK's persistent commitment to eco-friendly practices and responsible production, generating positive impacts on the environment.
Overview of Sustainability Efforts
This year's report highlights LILYSILK's Zero Waste Movement, which is founded on three core principles: Zero Inventory, Zero Waste, and Zero Disposals.
Zero Inventory: LILYSILK’s custom-made production model allows for garments to be crafted within 48 hours, which are then shipped within 2 to 3 days. This approach drastically minimizes waste and ensures that only needed products are produced, effectively addressing overproduction.
Zero Waste: The brand has ingeniously repurposed leftover materials into 7,323 pillowcases, 29,048 headbands, and 15,410 sleep masks. Additionally, over 5 tons of residual fabric has been ground and reformulated into sustainable textiles, including silk and wool blends for future collections.
Zero Disposables: Through a partnership with TerraCycle®, LILYSILK has launched a recycling program for its silk products. In 2024 alone, this initiative diverted over 490 pounds of material from landfills, bringing the total recycled items to more than 2,690, championing efforts to prevent non-reusable silk from ending up in waste facilities.
Packaging Innovations
As part of its ongoing sustainability journey, LILYSILK has significantly enhanced its packing practices. In 2024, an impressive 99% of its outer packaging has been transitioned to biodegradable materials, with a goal to achieve 100% by 2026. Many of these packaging materials are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®), reflecting a commitment to sourcing procedures that are environmentally sound.
Supplier Partnerships
LILYSILK's commitment extends to its suppliers, adhering to strict guidelines mandating globally recognized certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), RWS (Responsible Wool Standard), GCS (Good Cashmere Standard), and OEKO-TEX. This meticulous selection process ensures that all raw materials are ethically sourced, aligning with rigorous environmental and social standards.
